When you read about a scientific study in a book or a magazine, you probably take for granted that the methods used to conduct it or gather the information were, in fact, sound and honest. Yet there exists cases throughout history where scientists and reporters have been tricked, professionals faked results and everyday people pulled off elaborate hoaxes that fooled college professors, academics and experts alike. Here are ten of the biggest and most outrageous of these scientific hoaxes ever perpetrated, helping you learn from the past and hopefully prevent future fakers in the field...

The Cardiff Giant, the Tasaday Tribe, Bower and Chorley’s Crop Circles, Perpetual Motion Machines, and The Mechanical Turk were never scientific frauds. In fact, science was usually very skeptical and often refuted those hoaxes while much of the public embraced them.

So five out the ten frauds were not "science frauds" at all. The inability of the original writer (and the website that posted the article) to understand that simple fact makes me question their ability to do critical thinking.

2 years ago, there was an article regarding finding viable cells in Tyrannasaurus Rex bone marrow. While the scientist who found the cells was, indeed, a creationist, her research didn't intend to find such things. The article identified several other scientists that she called to run impartial analyses themselves to objectively verify her findings; several of them refused to do so because it was "impossible" to find such a thing, and therefore, in their minds, it wasn't worth their time to analyze something that couldn't exist.

NOTE: I haven't done a search for follow-up articles; for all I know, someone has invalidated her findings, and determined the whole thing was a hoax.

Those are the types of things that creationists need to focus on, if they're attempting to identify scientific bias, fraud, etc.

So-called scientists are men, and as such are sinful and corrupt. Of course there will be frauds, especially when they seek to preserve their self-proclaimed station as the arbiters of truth and reality. And we need to shine the light on them wherever they rear their heads, and keep a bead drawn on them.

    (Gun metaphor intentional.)

I was thinking the same thing.

Why isn't global warming on the list?

In terms of potential impact on the lives of average people it is huge!!!

It is a fraud that is being perpetrated by a large segment of the scientific community, the media and our government.

With the goal of tearing down the U.S. economically and placing the U.S. more under the control of the UN.

It should be number one on the list.

Indeed. Also curious that the list of 10 frauds has 12 entries...

Also, no mention of the infamous Cold Fusion experiment of 1989. I suppose not technically a fraud, but more of a misrepresentation of the results of the experiment.
