Catholic doctrine vs Calvinist.

    The Roman Catholic Church made it clear that they were not Calvinist. I want to look at a few canon's from the Council of Trent and see what you think.

    part one is called synergism.

    2nd....You agree that Calvinist are of Church by Satan and consigned to damnation???? hummm

    ahhh, thank you, that indeed it is. That explains a lot. It's the connection to the Roman church that the free willer/non cal/arminians wishes to avoid in their resistance to that label SYNERGISM.

    Synergism: the doctrine that the human will cooperates with the Holy Ghost in the work of regeneration.

    Monergism: the doctrine that the Holy Ghost acts independently of the human will in the work of regeneration.

    1. Yes, I believe man has an obligation of faith, confession and belief, so yes...label me a synergist

    2. I agree in "free will" being a part of God's purpose and design. I personally will make no such "judgements" about those who disagreed with this, rather leaving that up to the deity.

    it is dishonest, if I did as you said.

    This is why I asked. Surely he didn't mean that he agreed with the whole statement, as he had said. Now...you said I put words in his mouth.

    Let us review.

    Those words are IN THE STATEMENT!! I didn't place them there. This is what QF said he agreed with. THEREFORE puzzled.

    Lets see who is honest here.

    The Roman Catholic Council of Trent is something that many Baptist have never read. As we go through this document, it will become clear what theology is the closer to RCC. I bring this up for many reasons. One reason, in the past it has been said that Calvin is a RCC reject teaching RCC doctrines. While some doctrines we ALL will agree on, those that stand in the greatest opposition will be in the area of salvation, which was what gave us the Reformation.

    We have already seem monergism of the reformation rejected here by some. Synergism was what Erasmus (RCC) came up with in his debate with Luther and what the Pope and the RCC followed later at Trent.

    I have a lot of work a head of me today, but once I have time, I hope to go through all the key canons of Trent.

    You understood that in him agreeing with the second statement did not mean he agreed that anyone who didn't agree with him was damned to eternal hell. Or, why did you ask if anyone agreed with a statement no one would agree with completely. You are baiting us non-cal's into a argument, something you do often.

    Robert, I did agree with the statement and also after "childish chiding" clarified and qualified. Let him do with it whatever he wishes. His thoughts are not mine.
