Australia Day, our National Day is January 26th, the day commemorates the landing of "The First Fleet" in what is now Sydney.

Australia in many ways came to be what it is because of the American revolution. In looking for somewhere to deport its criminals once America became independant, and therefor not a place the British could send their crims, Australia was chosen. From that start we have become the nation we now are, independant, western orientated, home of the true southern baptists (look at the map!) and the best place in the world to live. :)

Have we problems? of course, the natural ones of flood, fire, drought, distance, the man made ones of pollution, greed, ungodliness, politicians who would probably fit well into the American system, and people who feel discriminated against. - and still a place that is a great one to live in. :)

Dorothea Mackellar wrote a poem over a 100 years ago that carries the emotion that is the feeling of Australia ... http://www.imagesaustralia.com/mycountry.htm

Well worth following the link and reading the whole poem, the second verse reads:-
    I love a sunburnt country,
    A land of sweeping plains,
    Of ragged mountain ranges,
    Of droughts and flooding rains.
    I love her far horizons,
    I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me!

Please pray for our nation, that God will work His miracle of revival here.

    Regards
    Bob

I spent a few weeks in Western Aussieland. Freemantle, to be exact. I loved the place.

    Happy Australia Day.

I will certainly pray for the revival you asked for, but if one is sent please try and send it back here.

What special activities do you all do to celebrate the holiday.

Of course being the Summer there right now, I'm sure picnics are high on the list.
