no one can stop him. except God Himself, of course.
But he will be one more addition to the tools of the devil in vilifying the purity of God here on earth and in time.
If God allows him, then I will trust God to know what He is doing.
    My answer was "no".

Are you saying Stanley should not lead a church b/c he got a divorce or did he do something else?

Why? What was the basis for the divorce?

I'd rather see Charles Stanley lead Ted Haggard's "church".

I would be interested in knowing how many in the church have left since his last major announcement.

Yeah I agree—I personally like Stanley. I don’t think his sermons reveal deep biblical truths or that he can be classified as a great theologian, but he seems to have the God given ability to teach life application lessons from Scripture that can help one have a Christ centered worldview. I kinda look at him as the wise ol grandpa type, someone who would be a good person to talk to in times of crises, b/c he has gone through a lot in his own life & would know how to address the situation with Scriptural advise. As far as him being divorced-- I was told his wife left him & although he tried to reconcile she would not, & b/c of that he never remarried. If this is the case, then I really don’t see how he could have avoided the situation. But if some have a problem with Stanley b/c he has taught something contrary to Scripture or has done something else that I am unaware of—I would certainly like to know about it.

Listen....probably because he got divorced. The grounds were not for Infidelity....Listen....Charles Stanley said "If my wife divorces me, I would resign immediately."... which of course he didn't do. Listen...It may seem to be an issue of integrety. Listen....

I am on the same page as you. I really like Stanley, however, in my opinion his depth is quite good in his role as a Pastor. Being a theologian is something altogether different. ( I know I will get zinged by the reformers about all the great reformed preachers of the past being deep thinkers) I submit that pastoring a church the size of First Atlanta is altogether a different task than in centuries past. The best place for true theologians is in the Universities and Seminaries attempting to get hopeful pastors to "think". BTW, his son Andy is my "preacher" at Wiregrass Church.

Hahahaha—“listen”—your wording is pretty cleaver—b/c he does say that about ever other word! Although I can see your point that his integrity could be questioned b/c he said he’d resign if his wife divorced him & then didn’t after she actually did, but he did not remarry after the “unbiblical” divorce & there are times when even the greatest follower of Christ have their integrity questioned. Look at Peter for example in Gal 2:11-14, where Paul calls him out for his hypocritical actions. Although Paul questioned his integrity here, it certainly did not disqualify Peter from being a leader of the church. In a similar manner, while Stanley shouldn’t have made that statement unless he meant it, his overall reliability should not be questioned based on one mistake. This being said, I’m still laughing at the way you worded the last post with “listen.” ;)

Well actually I’m pretty reformed & I agree with you on this! I would add that theologians might be more suited for an associate pastor role or an educational role in the church, where they can focus on simply studying & teaching & not have to worry about all the other duties a head pastor has to perform. This is not to say that a head pastor cannot also be a great theologian, but I know several head pastors who feel their study time is limited b/c they have so many other duties to perform.

Well I guess that explains your non-Cal views-lol;)

So Mr. Stanley recanted on a statement that he would leave if divorced?
Was his divorce unbiblical or biblical?
