Now that is a way to build trust with your kids.

Wouldn't it be better to have your kids mow the lawn, rake the leaves, shovel the snow and take out the trash to give them exercise than what she is suggesting?

In addition to exercise they would be learning the value of work and also making a contribution to the family.

No, you missed what she said. She said that African American children can't go outside their houses because African American communities are not safe for children. I can't say that I disagree with her.

I grew up in an African American community.

If it is not safe outside then parents can go out with them.

Also wondering why it is safe to send kids out alone to go to school and back but not into the backyard.

What are the people in those communities doing to make them safe besides complaining and expecting someone else to do it for them. (Rhetorical)

Have you seen the attendance and drop out rates of primarily African American schools? I'm not sure they are sending the kids out to go to school.

I know it was rhetorical, but I'm still going to answer:

    Absolutely nothing.

Yes, the graduation rate in Detroit is about 25%.

Given the real problems in the African American community why is Michelle Obama working on things like tricking our children into running up and down the stairs instead of adressing real issues?

Because it's a lot less work to get on a radio show and talk about this fluff than to actually call out the African Community for what it is and then actually do something about it? I'm just guessing though... :)

Which is what illegals need to do. Stay home and make their country what it needs to be.

So I'm wondering why the family in the commercial is white.

Speaking of back yards, hasn't the First Lady has generously provided Washington DC youths the opportunity to serve as field hands in her White House garden?

Hey...that's a good idea! We could have some rich people buy a bunch of land close to these African American communities. Then the kids from those communities could come work in the fields. We could pay them with their own blood, sweat, and tears. It would sure stop the obesity in the African American communities.

Oh, wait. Yeah, that might not look like such a good idea.

Yet another reason we can point to the demise of the nuclear family and link it to the demise of our culture. Statistically, black Americans are ahead of other races....but the others are working hard to catch up... :(

Well, what should actually be done about it in your view? A public collective flogging?
"What it is" (the community) like any other "community" is a collective of millions of individuals spread out over a wide area. It is not a single person or small group you can discipline or "correct". No individual can control other people's behavior.

And even then, you are going by statistical figures (which can be shaky and prone to differing factors and interpretations as we have seen here before), and then painting the entire race with ridiculous generalities. So now, no black kids are sent out to school. Wow! And then you wonder why people suspect conservatives of bigotry.
What you're doing is exactly what the Islamists do, when they point to American "immorality", how they're "the leader" in the world's immorality, and then paint the entire culture, which would include you, as the enemy of decency. So then you should be punished along with the decadent pop culture, in their view.
But then, you're here as a Christian fighting against that same immorality in society, aren't you? And the problem is, most other people just aren't listening. It's the sinfulness of mankind; all mankind. So you can't be held responsible for the others, can you? Or that some other group is not as good as yours at trying to correct itself.

The Black revolutionaries, aside from trying to return racism for racism, did try to call the black community to improvement and self-reliance. But they were all eliminated. The only leaders left were the Jacksons and Sharptons, and local political leaders in the inner city, who basically found their niche in politics, and didn't do much for the community.
Even the early rappers (like around 30 years ago, before it really hit mainstream) tried to bring some sort of consciousness to the community. But then, some producers got in there, and decided to promote violence and the street lifestyle (under the guise of "reflecting reality"), and that's what unfortunately caught on, encouraging kids to stay that way.

Again; you can blame the Democrats and their policies all you want, but this hotbed race issue will die down quicker if people leave the racial group out of it. The problems in this country are not their fault.

On the other hand, it is perfectly acceptable for "Christian" pregnancy centers to lie to the public and shill for the welfare agencies.

No, it is not "like any other community". The areas of towns that are black communities are nothing like the areas of towns that are not black communities. I can go back through the murders in my city over the past 5 years and at least 75% of the murders happen in the black community. (here's a hint: the black community does not make up 75% of the population). So, please don't tell me that it is "like any other community".

I would expect no less a comment from a person who has no problem with abortion.
