    Five myths about Ronald Reagan

    By Edmund Morris

It has been argued that Ronald Reagan was a myth himself, a construct of his own and other people's imaginings, rather than an extraordinary American about whom some untruths are told. The sentimental colossus his acolytes are trying to erect today, with gilded pecs, red-painted smile and an NRA-approved pistol in each manly fist, bears no resemblance to the man I knew: in private a person of no ego and little charisma, in public a statesman of formidable purpose.

    1. He was a bad actor.

    2. He was but a movie-set soldier in World War II.

    3. He was warm-hearted.

    4. He was only a campaign Christian.

    5. He was an "amiable dunce."

All I know is that he did an excellent job as President. Quality wise, he was the last legitimate President our country had.

Half of that list is opinion.

How exactly do you get half of a list of 5?

He stopped at the hyphen on number two.

I think the entire list is opinion.

    So what?

I'll even add a popular myth that liberals propagate...

Reagan had nothing to do with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the final U.S. victory in the cold war.

Youre absolutely right that's a myth. Reagan intentionally pushed the Soviet economy over the precipice of no return. It was an economic war; there was no way the Soviets could keep up with our military build up.

Also, there was an ulterior motive in amassing the huge U.S. debt at that time; the thinking being that if the Dems did get back in the deficit/debt would be so huge that the socialists would be unable to implement socialistic programs. It didn't stop Obama though.

IMO, Reagan's strongest leadership quality was that he searched out the best most talented people and surrounded himself with them. He believed in letting these good people do their jobs. Reagan was an outstanding manager.

I will second that, but add one more he was a LEADER. We have way way to many managers, but very few leaders around. Yes Reagan did a great job of using talented people, but he could also motivate, inspire, and lead.

What a contrast from Carter's leadership to Reagan's.

Reagan was just another corporate republican who cared little for the working man. I don't miss him at all. In fact, I worked at a company where one of the inspectors celebrated Reagan's death every year. I admit this was a little too disrespectful for me, but he didn't care what anyone thought.

And who is it Obama cares about? Do you think he cares about what conservatives think? You know the one's he said could come along but they would have to ride in the back of the bus. Reagan never said such a thing and never displayed that kind of arrogance.

Obama is a politician also, but at least he isn't a republican.

There's a difference. I don't believe bw uses the secrecy of PMs to bully and threaten.

Thanks to the efficiency of Satan and our sin nature, it only seems to take a half year for the novice politician with the best of intentions to sell out. A one term limit would minimize sell-outs.

    Should I be?

Why don't you put your threats out here for everyone to see instead of in PMs?

We could all use a laugh.

If they make you laugh, then you aren't threatened. That makes you a liar.
