Wow! Never knew there was that much to his teaching. He's known as the one who popularized the "study" that "proved" rock beats were bad; but it turned out the drum beats that affected mice negatively were random beats and not a rock beat. The anti-CCM'ers all snatched this up as the ultimate proof.

Funny, you didn't really see his name cited by them a lot. Perhaps they knew he was off. (Yet still used his report anyway).

I was surprised, just the other day, to find that BDM/jesus-is-savior.com did one of their "exposes" on him:

Thankfully, never liked or used any of his stuff. Still pretty popular in the conservative homeschool world. But then again, they think denim ankle length skirts are both fashionable and modest!

Don't know a thing about 'Gothard', but things I see on this page, make sense to me ... What's wrong with "total submission to God, doesn’t matter what you think, want, or feel, it only matters what God wants,” or, "denim ankle length skirts", or, "the conservative homeschool world" ?

Some of his stuff isn't so bad. But there's quite a bit that's waay out there. I've used some of his stuff on "purpose in life." But with regards to some of his practical applications, there's too many bones to spit out with the meat. I wouldn't send someone his way--too many other better ways to get material & knowledge, without all the craziness.

In recent years, he's apparently gone off the deep end in lots of areas.

With Gothard, we're seeing what happens when a fringe Christian cult figure starts to age and get senile. Some of my homeschooled friends who have had dealings with him say that he's getting farther and farther out there and sees himself increasingly as being a prophet that leads people to God.

He's a real clown. I mean, even when he was in better shape, he was still crazy. Come on - throw away Cabbage Patch dolls because of demons?

I wouldn't recommend his material to my dog.

Unfortunately, Bill Gothard was one of the ones that I listened to when "cutting my teeth" as a new Christian believer. I started to realize just how far away from reality he was when he began attacking almost everyone that was not just like him, and how his attitude would have castigated Paul, Peter, or Jesus -- simply for cultural issues.

Wow, I was just thinking about Bill Gothard last night... I too got involved with his BLP seminar when I was "cutting my teeth" as a young Christian. It seemed to make sense out of many things. A few years later my church quit sending people to the seminars though but did not explain why.

I was just now doing a search for "Gothard" on this BB to see what was the general consensus on the IBLP and Gothardism. Seems that I share the views of those expressed above.

Wow, lots of stuff there but it looks like the "expose" is about 10 years old... I wonder what's happened since then.

He was popular 30 or so years ago. I never heard of anyone being harmed by his schlock except by sending good money after bad.

He was one of the main speakers at the 2011 A.C.E International Student Convention. This was the first time I'd seen him or even heard about him in over 30 years. His message that evening was mainly motivational rather than doctrinal or evangelistic.
