    Please check out the attached link to Lighthouse Trails website. It shows that the Seminary is promoting a book by Leonard Sweet, and in this book is some heretical statements. I would have thought that Al Mohler would have had his editors be more thorough in choosing what they promote. Seems the most conservative school we have now is falling for liberal doctrines or they are just irresponsible.

    Is it any wonder? In 2nd Timothy, Paul wrote about the very same thing. It appears that the time of enduring sound doctrine is gone.

    2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
    2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

    Peace and Prayers

    This Lighthouse Trails blog would have a lot more credibility if it had said anything about the book. They are critical of SBTS and its Towers magazine for doing a review of Leonard Sweet's Jesus Manifesto. Yet it is not possible to read the blog and learn anything about what is in the book. They tear into the New Age outlook of Leonard Sweet (as well they should) and they denounce his adoption of the writings of Thomas Merton (as well they should). They also discuss the contents of other works by Sweet but nowhere do they say what Jesus Manifesto is about. For all we know, Jesus Manifesto has nothing to do with New Age theology.

    I went to the amazon.com website and there learned that the complete title to the book is Jesus Manifesto: Restoring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ. After reading a couple of reviews there, I got the impression that this book has nothing at all to do with New Ageism. So let's get more information before we denounce a whole seminary for publishing a favorable review of a book by a questionable author.

    Zenas, I stand corrected. I read the article again and you're right. However I disagree about Lighthouse Trails and their credibilty. They do warn about Sweetans his theology and not so much the book itself. I was the one who mistakenly blaimed the SBTS editors and I shouldn't have. Thanks and God bless.

    Len Sweet is a good guy who has a passion for Jesus and a heart for the church in an increasing complex age.

    This junk is nothing more than a bunch of people with too much free time on their hands use the moniker of "discernment" to push their agenda. Why do Christian continue to validate these kinds of ministries that destroy those they perceive different than them when there is a whole world dying without Christ. Surely our resources can be better spent sending the Gospel than playing traffic cop on a deserted street.

    Pitting scripture against a personal experience is very problematic. In his zealousness to make things about Christ he as ignored the very words of Christ.

    Joh 8:31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
    Joh 8:32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

    Abiding in his word is to abide in doctrine. Honestly I do not understand the push by some to hype experience and demean doctrine. But it certainly makes one suspicious of their motives. It gives the appearance that they do not want to be held accountable to the word of God. Maybe they do but they need to find a better way to articulate their position and stay away from tearing down doctrine in a way that pits one against the other.

    I do believe that there has been a large practice of churching ourselves and not putting anything into practice. It is my hope that is what he meant. But I find it difficult to get to that position based on his words. Words like this come across as very anti-scripture and present any experience with Jesus as only ever being in some supernatural manifestation. Jesus cannot be experienced apart from his word, scripture, and doctrine. And no one should be trying to.

    Please don't get my reply to mean I am in favor of Sweet, he is heretical, just look to most of his writings. I just stand corrected in what I originally posted. Please know that I think Doctrine is very important and Sweet doesn't seem to believe so. I just hope the SBTS isn't falling back into the liberal mindset they had before Mohler.

    I love to hear sermons when the preacher talks about "itching ears." Here are two preachers preaching on itching ears.

    The Danger Of Having Itching Ears

    Speaking to Itching Ears
