58% Favor Government Shutdown Until Spending Cuts Are Agreed Upon
    Monday, February 28, 2011

As Republicans and Democrats in Congress haggle over the budget, most voters would rather have a partial shutdown of the federal government than keep its spending at current levels.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 33% of Likely U.S. Voters would rather have Congress avoid a government shutdown by authorizing spending at the same levels as last year. Fifty-eight percent (58%) says it’s better to have a partial shutdown until Democrats and Republicans can agree on what spending to cut.

I never understood why the shutdown of 1995 was bad. I supported it 100% right up until the republicans caved. No one suffered or lost a check as a result. I will have to check but I think we had the same shutdowns ever year of Carter and Reagan’s presidencies.

I got a call in 1995, after the shutdown was over from a pollster asking how I was affected and what I thought. I told them then it was simply proof to me that the entire system could be shut down permanently and we would suffer no ill effects.

SHUT THEM DOWN AND KEEP THEM DOWN!

The 33% that are against it are - let me guess - government workers.

Actually, I think the shutdown cost the government a lot of money. As I remember it, the few thousand that got furloughed received unemployment benefits and then got back-paid for it, and didn't even have to pay the unemployment back.
