Is it true to state that when Jesus died on the Cross, that God the father DID somehow make it possible for ALL of mankind to be saved, but that only the Elect of God would actually receive the salvation jesus purchased for them?

seems that the Bible teaches the tension between Chosen in christ, and also a free offer to become chosen..

So did Jesus potentially died for all, but only those God elected actually receive Him?

Some might want to say that, but that would be arguing from our very human perspective. To say that the atonement was for "all" opens the door to universal salvation, something that we know for certain is not true. To say that we know the number of the elect is another issue -- we don't -- it may be many more or many less than we know. That is God's business.

To respond to the election of God is the third leg in this issue. We are called to respond as if all are saved, but realize that the elect of God are the ones who will be saved. WE do not decide who is the elect or not. WE preach, faithfully, the gospel to all persons, everywhere, as commanded by Christ. God then does His divine work. God does the final selection of who is elect or not.

Article 3: The Infinite Value of Christ's Death

This death of God's Son is the only and entirely complete sacrifice and satisfaction for sins; it is of infinite value and worth, more than sufficient to atone for the sins of the whole world.

Christ's death on the cross is sufficient for all. But it's only efficient for the elect.

Isaiah 53:8: "...He shall see the travail of his soul and be satisfied."

Jesus' death on the cross satisfied God's justice.

This leaves us with two ways to see this verse.

One, God's justice is satisfied, sin is paid for, and all will justly be saved.

Or two, God's justice is satisfied only for those for whom it is intended.
