Where were you and what were you doing when you heard that the jet airliner had flown into the World Trade Center in NYC?

I was walking home from voting in the primary elections. A neighbor was out in his yard. When he saw me walking home he yelled in an angry voice, "Have you heard what they did now?"

It was very difficult to believe until I got home and turned on the TV.

I didn't hear it right away. I was teaching Physical Science and at some point another teacher came in and whispered it to me and said that we'd have a meeting with the kids at noon. I remember thinking that's way too late because we had a lot of traveling parents at that school. One of them had to be in NY.

I was home with my youngest, who was nine months old at the time. My neighbor called and asked if I'd seen the news. I hadn't, so she told me we were under some kind of attack and to turn on the TV.

I remember looking outside and thinking what a beautiful day it was, to have such horrific events taking place in my country. It was just unbelievable. I remember looking at my baby and wondering what kind of world she would be growing up in and if she would even grow up at all, with the uncertainty we were facing.

I had stepped onto my bosses office and he told me. I worked at a small college as the electrician so I spent a lot of time watching the news all over campus that day.

My housemate Cathy and I ambled into the tea room at the ICU where we both worked to begin the afternoon shift.....Everyone was around the telly, some folk were crying.

"Hi guys, watcha watching?" we asked,

Everyone pointed at the screen showing the Towers, then it looped showing the aeroplane....

I could not believe it....it looped over the next 24-48 hours with everyone thinking this was a prelude to the End of the World.....

I was with a group of preachers in Baltimore, Maryland doing some partnership mission survey work in the city

On that morning of 9-11 we were packed up and ready to head back to Jackson, MS--------still at the mission house I happened to turn on the televison to catch the morning news---------when I turned it on the news was of the first building that had just been hit----while watching that report we saw the other jet liner hit the 2nd building

Then news came over TV that all airliners were ordered to land and all other airlines were immediately grounded

Interesting thing is----our team had been in Washington DC the day before on a free time break----another interesting thing is----our group was on the steps of Capital Hill the nite before and all of us were compelled to stop were we were and we prayed for the safety and future of our country

Like ABC, I was home doing household things and tending my baby (then 3 yo).

My first thought was: I hope they aren't letting my children see this(then 6, 6 and 8).

My second thought was: "oh my goodness, T is in Atlanta!" (T being my husband)

I had caught the news just before the second plane hit while the newscasters still believed the first hit was some sort of accident. When the second plane hit it was obvious that it wasn't any sort of accident.

T was on the floor of a conference being held in a convention center just outside Atlanta International. Thankfully, he had driven over instead of flying and was able to pack up and get through the security, and was home several hours later.

My children's school did a fabulous job of keeping the news from the children even through their were quite a few people coming in to get their children. This allowed us parents to explain the attack as we saw fit. My eldest, who was in 3rd grade at the time only remembers the very beginning of news coverage before the teachers realized what was really happening and turned it off in the classrooms. (news being considered appropriate "current events" material in most of our classrooms)
