If Hillary like Al-Jazeera, and feels it is right on and the model that American news agencies should adopt, then how does she justify the fact that to listen to Al-jazeera is to listen to "Anti-American propaganda! Furthermore, how can she even think that anti-American broadcast news is real news???

    See: http://www.onenewsnow.com/Culture/Default.aspx?id=1308980

What do you think of Hillary's praise of this radical Muslim news station?

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

    First, it's Hillary.
Second, I check out Foxnews, CNN, MSNBC, OneNewsNow, CNSNews, WND, AP, and Reuters. Between all these sources, I can usually find the middle "truth."
Third, I'm able to read the news from MSNBC knowing that it has a liberal slant. I read WND and DrudgeReport knowing they have a sensationalist right-winger slant.

All that to say: Al Jazeera is, actually, a good source of news. While watching/reading, remember that it's slanted towards anti-Americanism.

But while I was in Afghanistan, Al Jazeera would have information on what was happening (such as the attacks in the capital city of Kabul in January 2009) before anyone else...and to be honest, was more accurate than CNN.

    -----edited to add:
It's also good to have around, to know what some of the radicals are talking/thinking.

Very interesting comment Don ... thanks for your insight. I have seen it only on rare occasions and was surprised it was not more extreme. The new I saw on Al Jazerra was more balanced than I expected, a pleasant surprise. It certainly was no more extreme in its reporting than Fox is in its reporting.

I don't know how many on the board have watched Al Jazeera. But they can online at:

    http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/

And then they can come to their own conclusions.

The "wow" is that you consider Fox News "extreme." :tonofbricks:

I am not sure what you mean by extreme. Fox news definitely has a bias and I would say that Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity are pretty 'extreme.' You may say, well they are not the news reporters. In one way that is true, but they are part of the Fox News Network. I feel that often they are not reporting news, but making up statements simply to cause a controversy and raise their ratings. We pride ourself on a free press. But it is not so free in that it is profit driven and advertisers do influence what stories are aired and the take on them. [IMNO]

I have not watched much of Al-Jazerra so I cannot make a definite statement. But from the little I have watched I have not seen anything as extreme as O'Reilly, Beck, or Hannity. As I said in my earlier post I have been surprised that Al-Jazerra is not really extreme.

What Hillary is actually saying here is that the government along with the mass corporate media is losing the information war due their rapidly declining ability to shape public perceptions (dictate reality) at this present time.

In other words the old world wide corporate propaganda machine and all it's highly polished and professional talking heads are losing the last shred of credibility they had.

It turns out that if given a choice people the world over prefer real news over endless govenment and corporate propaganda and disinformation.

Conclusion, the globalists are losing the info war badly and they are very worried about it.

The article you linked to and your argument are both misleading. They are nothing more than the worn out standard fare of corporate disinformation done poorly. Basically it is like the great talking head of "Oz" telling Dorothy and friends to pay no mind to the man behind the curtain. For the real whole story see below.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a tacit admission during a U.S. Foreign Policy Priorities committee meeting yesterday, arguing that the State Department needs more money because the US military-industrial complex is “losing the information war” to the likes of Russia Today and Al Jazeera due to the US corporate media having completely abandoned “real news”. From the article:

"In fact viewership of al-Jazeera is going up in the United States because it's real news. You may not agree with it, but you feel like you're getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and, you know, arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff that we do on our news which, you know, is not particularly informative to us, let alone foreigners."

Based on the above quote I reluctantly have to agree with Hillary (I hate that when that happens!). Take a look at the prime time schedule of the U.S. "news" channels--MSNBC, FOX, CNN, etc.

Chris Mathews, Lawrence O'Donnell, Rachel Maddow
Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Greta VanSustern
Eliot Spitzer, Piers Morgan, Anderson Cooper

Basically commentary and guests with opinions punctuated with commercials every 6 minutes. There is very little hard news presented in a news reporting format.

On the other hand, during the recent and ongoing unrest in the Arab nations you could tune in to Al-Jazeera and get news reporting. Yeah, it's got their slant on things based on what they cover, but you are getting news reporting.

Comparing someone or something to Aljazeera is like comparing them to Hitler. If you cannot do better than that you have no real argument.

What is your argument or point here?
Have you ever watched Al Jazeera?
Do you believe Fox news is not slanted to the right?

    The argument is this:
Fox News is slanted to the right.
MSNBC is slanted to the left.
Al Jazeera is slanted towards radical islam.

Doesn't mean I won't watch it; just means that I have my correct filters in place when I do...just like when I read/watch CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Drudge Report, etc.

The reality is this. The major mega corporations (5 or 6 of them) own and control the whole U.S. mass media. They give us "both sides" so we'll have something to keep us all divided. Leftie against rightie.

They like it that way. While we're so busy worrying about what the "other side" is doing we don't have time to figure out who or what the real threat to these United States is.

Wake up y'all! They're playing one side against the other. Age old trick, it's called divide and conquer and we're still falling for it. All the "filters" in the world isn't going to do any good as long as we let them keep us divided!

    I say again . . . WAKE UP!!!

And far too often neither really report real news but totally unimportant items about the mid-doings of movie stars and celebrates ... pablum to keep the attention of the 'people' away from real problems and real ideas.

The talking heads certainly do not report news, but do give outrageous opinions that only contribute to the division and mis-education of people

There is no profit motive for the corporations or to the personal bank accounts of the talking heads to be reasonable, rational or balanced. News reporting has fallen far in the last 50 years, indeed perhaps, with very few exceptions in America it has died. To me the best newscast on TV is The New Hour on PBS. There they give more than one minute spots to news items and usually interview folk on both sides of the issue. Now I know some are going to scream liberal at The News Hour ... but after being on this board for several years it has become obvious that there are folk who scream liberal at anything they do not agree with or at a program that gives more than one side, their side of an issue!

And why I am on this topic, it irritates me greatly when I occasionally watch a program where a politician is interviewed by a panel who proudly proclaim, "We ask the tough questions," to see this panel start a line of questioning, the politician or other person give a trite answer and then the panel moves away without nailing the person they are interviewing to the wall for the ridiculous answer. I expect the problem is that if they really asked the "tough questions" no one would come on their program ... thus the programs simply become platforms for the 'guests' to spout their agenda without having to really answer any questions of merit or really explaining in depth what they are advocating.

At least they don't spend half their time talking about Justin Beiber et al.

This thread got me motivated to have a look. It may be slanted toward an Islamic agenda, but it certainly is 'real news.'

Justin Beiber? I've never heard of Justin ... am I fortunate?

I just googled Justin. Yes, same type of non-important person that the media follows and avoids real news.

Yes, it is real news and yes it is slanted but not nearly so radical as many would lead us to believe.

Hmmm...I think the BBC World News does a good job. (with the same caveats you listed regarding liberalism.)

I agree. BBC does a good job. Also Duetsche Welle, the German news agency, also does a good job in their English transmissions.

You can listen to BBC on many PBS radio stations and watch on many PBS television stations.

Duetsche Welle is also on a number of PBS stations.

In my reply you quoted I was thinking of networks in the USA.
