And it leaves one to wonder if Calvin would have extended the same respect and brotherly kindness in his treatment of Arminius, had he lived long enough to read his works. Somehow I doubt it considering the fate of others who dared to disagree with him.

 

The theological views of Jakob Hermanszoon were markedly different than that of John Calvin's biblical understanding. Calvin would not have given him any praise. But he would not have considered him a heretic on the order of a Servetus.

You will have to remember that one of the men that Calvin held in honor was Melancthon whose views became rather Arminian before there was Arminius. Calvin held no ill will toward him,he deeply cared about him. Calvin considered him a dear friend.
