Lawsuit seeks dissolution of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton, Chattahoochee Hills

The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus filed a lawsuit Monday against the state of Georgia seeking to dissolve the city charters of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton and Chattahoochee Hills. Further, the lawmakers, joined by civil rights leader the Rev. Joseph Lowery, aim to dash any hopes of a Milton County.

The lawsuit, filed in a North Georgia U.S. District Court Monday, claims that the state circumvented the normal legislative process and set aside its own criteria when creating the “super-majority white ” cities within Fulton and DeKalb counties. The result, it argues, is to dilute minority votes in those areas, violating the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the Constitution.
Suit says 'super-majority white neighborhoods' were created.

    SNIP

Emory University law professor Michael Kang said the case is unique because the Voting Rights Act focuses on redistricting, whereas this lawsuit challenges the legality of cities. Kang, who has not reviewed the case in its entirety, said the plaintiffs will likely have to show evidence of discriminatory purpose to have a strong claim. Kane said the case has interesting implications.

Just a reminder, folks: According to our government, only white folks can discriminate. By government standards, it is impossible for any other racial group to discriminate. Therefore, there MUST be two sets of rules: "White," and "All Other."

Kind of stacks the deck, doesn't it?

Is there a problem with this group if a city is too black? I'm really sick of the silent majority and the vocal minority. Imagine what could get done if the roles were reversed.

The majority is afraid of what they will automatically be labled if they oppose this. After all, only a "racist" would be against this.

    Insane.

Now it's racist to incorporate a city unless it has the "proper" racial balance.

Where do these nutballs come from?

I see where you're comin' from, Doggy!!!

My family is predominately white----100% white

My question is---if a city can be too white----and a county can be too white---and a community can be too white---what about my family??

On the OP----if its a matter of judicial votes and fairness----just let the legislature of the great state of Georgia find a way to "zig-zag" the voting lines through those cities in question-----I think they're smart enough and trustworthy enough and honest enough to make it all fair for voting purposes!!:BangHead:

Odds are your family is not 100% white and/or will not be in two or three generations. There is a new world out there.

One of my kids talked me into taking a DNA test. It found relatives we didn't know existed. We met a cousin from Anchorage and it turned out we had more family pictures of his relatives (his side) than he did but we didn't know who they were.
