This coming Sunday, a lot of Bible believing Churches are going to be recognizing Palm Sunday, to their own shame.

Other than being one of those made-up celebrations, concocted by the Catholic Church, Palms Sunday is also one of the last days, a real Christian would want to celebrate.

    Here is the account........
    John 12:12-13
V.12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
V.13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed [is] the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

But a few days later, here is what those same people were crying.....
    Mark 15:11-13
V.11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
V.12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do [unto him] whom ye call the King of the Jews?
V.13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.

    ---------------------------------
Not only was the Church, never instructed to celebrate this event, but knowing the whole story about how shallow these cries of “Hosanna” really were, I am surprised that any Christian would want to celebrate it.

But then again, most professing Christians today never read their Bible anyway; so all they know about this event, is what their Spiritual leaders are telling them.

This is a sad time, for Christianity.
    Come quickly Lord Jesus......

I used to be extremely anti-holyday and anti-church calendar until a military chaplain explained to me the historical development and purpose of the liturgy and calendar. I cannot regurgitate the conversation but I'll simply recommend that you have a similar conversation with a minister of a liturgical church and you may gain a new appreciation for these things. I say "appreciate", but not necessarily embrace it.

Tell me that you don't celebrate Christmas or Easter either. We aren't commanded to celebrate either and both were originally celebrated by the RC.

There are a couple of verses that suits nicely here:

Rom 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.
Rom 14:6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord: and he that eateth, eateth unto the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, unto the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

Personally, I think it's nitpicking. Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem was part of the Easter story. Besides, how many of us can honestly say that we have never been guilty of similar shallowness toward our Lord?

I say celebrate the comming of our Savior.:jesus::godisgood:

    Hello Salty

    Since you said........
I seriously thought that you wanted a replay.
    --------------------------------------------------
No, I don’t celebrate Passover; Why do you think that I would?

As my handle points out, I am here to learn.

At this point in my walk with the Lord, I see it as an error, for the Church to do ANYTHING, that isn’t spelled out in Scripture.

Several times in the Word, the Lord has pointed out the error of “assuming” that the LORD wants us to do something, when in fact it is only our idea.
    --------------------------------------------------
    Some might say....
    Well, lets see..........
    Matthew 7:21-23
V.21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
V.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
V.23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

In light of this passage, we know that we live in a world filled with billions of people who think that they are saved, when in fact they are not.

And every year, around Easter they get this big reinforcement, that they are “religious”, when one of these days, they will stand before the Lord and realize that all this religious stuff, didn’t mean a thing.
    --------------------------------------------------
Palm Sunday, along with every other man-made religious holiday, hurts mankind, by giving people an option, to truly being born again, by a life changing encounter with Jesus Christ.

    1) You might read Numbers 9:2 - 5

    2) but does the Bible FORBID celebrating Palm Sunday

Based on your comment, we should not celberate the anniversary of a church, pastor, ect

    or should we?

I wonder what you mean by 'celebrate' Palm Sunday.
I certainly do not believe in handing out palms and trying to re-enact the entry of our Lord into Jerusalem. I believe in the Regulative Principle. But I shall be preaching on Luke's account of the event, which includes Him weeping over Jerusalem. It's a great text and what better time to preach it?

Those people are going to exist whether or not we celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter. There are many people who say "well my mama was a Christian, so I guess I am too" and there are many so-called preachers/teachers who are "in it" for the money and there are all sort of shysters out there who use Christ's name for nafarious reasons. But why should I refrain from celebrating because they celebrate wrongly. Can God not tell the difference in why I celebrate and why those folk celebrate?

Celebrating gives people another option for salvation than faith in Christ? Well, maybe in the RC, but at my church the preacher will stand up in front of all the "Baptist Bunnies" (who only hop in on Easter) and tell them plainly what they must do to be saved. Would you rather those who come only once or twice not hear at all?

Hey, Stilllearning, have I got the church for you. The Church of Christ really doesn't do anything that isn't spelled out in scripture. No instrumental music, no women teaching men, and best of all for you, NO HOLIDAYS OBSERVED BY THE CHURCH. Members are of course free to celebrate at home.

But The Churches of Christ, in my neck of the woods, preach baptismal regeneration!
    --------------------------------------------------
I know that I may seem like kind of a nut, but this time of year always gets me down, because of all the people I see in my area and the world, who are “doing” all these religious things, while all the time rejecting the free “gift” of salvation.

Maybe I just care too much about people’s souls, to let them off the hook that Jesus put them on when He said........
    John 3:18
“He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

The whole world is “condemned already”, and all the religion in the world, won’t help them a bit.

Brought a smile to my face, Rob. You nailed it. This seems a non-issue to me. We will remember the events of the Passion Week and can't change Scripture. On Sunday before crucifixion the fickle unregenerate crowd hailed the Son of David (Messiah). On Thursday they killed Him.

We are preaching expositionally (Matt 12 and unpardonable sin this Palm Sunday) which lends itself to the evens of the Passion Week quite well. False profession of love for Messiah, but when put to the test, we still cry for blood.

Hello stilllearning Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, and though I don't take part in any Palm Sunday celebrations it is not because I am against them as I have never thought about it, but I am still a little confused. What exactly are you so against to the point to say; "Palms Sunday is also one of the last days, a real Christian would want to celebrate."
What I mean is you evidently see this a sin (I am assuming) and if so why? What is it about this celebration that makes you feel the Lord is against it? Can you be a little more precise? Thank you.

I understand where your coming from, there are many times we do things that are not spelled out in scripture. Look at what Palm Sunday represents, it is a Triumphal entry of the Lord to present Himself to the people as the Messiah. Christ emphasis to the Pharisees was if the people didn't cry out the rocks would, that is significant is it not. It is never about the people we are all shallow in many ways. I never did a celebration of the day when I was pastoring but I did bring a message pointing out the significance of the day. The importance of His Triumph for us, He came as the King of King and Lords of Lords. Don't celebrate it but reverance what it shows to us as believers, the conquring King coming in triumph and He conquered the grave and death for us.

    Good morning freeatlast

No, the issue isn’t sin, but a concern for souls.

I just have a concern for people, who may not be saved, yet each year during this season, have their religioisty reconfirmed, by these holidays.

    As for the statement....“one of the last days, a real Christian would want to celebrate”;
That may have been a little over the top, because what Jesus did by fulfilling prophecy was wonderful and he also commended the people for their praises.

But I just can’t help but think, that the only reason today’s real Church celebrates it in this way, is because of a “Catholic influence”.

It brakes my heart, how the RCC is lying to so many people, and I take every opportunity to reveal it for what it really is.
