Know Billy Graham and Wife Ruth were different in their Churches..

Any couples here in same situation?
Any "spiritual differences" have to work out?

My husband and I have always attended the same church through our friendship, dating and marriage. However, it was not always a Baptist church that we attended.

I do not believe that one must attend a Baptist church in order to be "right". I know many non-denominational churches that are just as solid and stand right alongside Baptist churches in their beliefs and practices. I never identify myself as "Baptist" because honestly, I just attend a Baptist church but I am a Christian.

Personally, I would see great issues with a couple attending ANY two different churches - not just a Baptist and another church. They could both attend Baptist churches but the fact that they would attend different churches shows that there is something wrong in the relationship, IMO. I just found out yesterday that a couple that used to attend our church, then the wife started going to a different Baptist church because their daughter preferred that church instead, are now separated. I could have predicted that just by them attending different churches.

So bottom line, my identity is in Christ - not in the church I attend. However, if my spouse and I attend different churches, even if we have the same exact beliefs and both go to Baptist churches, that will cause problems in the relationship.

We attend different churches although we have the same beliefs.

The only issue dividing is what is offered at "his" does not meet the current needs of our grade school gd, so I take her to "mine."

That will probably change as she ages and we will pick one or the other.

It isn't a problem for us and causes us no problems.

We have a very strong marriage and very strong faith.

I find great value in a family going to one church and do not see how going to two different churches can be healthy. I guess some make it work but isn't it better to be sitting under the same teaching and amongst the same family in the body of Christ? To me it's almost like living apart. Some do it and it's OK but it's not the ideal.

I grew up in Church of England, same as wife. I was also saved in the Church of England. Later joined the Plymouth Brethren and then Baptist Union in the UK.

I served as a chaplain in Canadian Army (Anglican). Wife and I were married in Anglican Church.

I pastored baptist churches in Canada and wife always attended those churches. We are still married, so I guess we did ok.

I am a very strong baptist in every way and have been since 1958. I accept twice-born believers from other churches and enjoy their fellowship in Christ. It does not have to be antagonistic because we disagree in theology.

    Cheers,

    Jim

My husband and I were both raised Baptist. He no longer attends church, though he still holds to his faith.

Things to work out? Yeah, my raising left me with impression that not attending church was akin to leaving the faith. I grew out of that one. He had to get used to the idea that *I* was going to church regularly and was going to be a (active) member of the church and if he didn't like it, well to bad. And I had to get used to fact that he WASN'T going to be a (active) member of a church and he wasn't going to attend regularly and if I didn't like it, well too bad!

Eventually, he moved his membership from the church he'd been raised in (and baptisted in) to the church I attend as a show of family unity and we all got used to life as it is. We don't always like it, but we are mature enough to deal with our differences. Our marriage is fine btw.

I agree with Ann and Jim. You don't have to attend a Baptist church to serve the Lord.

Well she doesn't go to any church & I have to accept it, not that I like it. Besides if I had my druthers we would be going to a Primitive Baptist Church & unfortunately there are none in NJ. I have communicated with them regarding a church plant however. God willing, we will put one in Northern NJ.

Would she be willing to plant a church with you? I pray that you guys can either start a church together or else begin to attend together somewhere. I can't imagine Bob and I attending different churches!

She would probably allow me to, but churches have used & hurt her so she is extremely skeptical of their motives. I think my brother & family with their IFB shtick was the last straw. She has seen children estranged from family & very hypocritical people etc & so she is very gun shy. dont think I could ever get her into a church again unless it was radically different ....that is why I mentioned the PB's. They are certainty radically different but I am in NW NJ & you & I both know its not a hotbed for religion so unless a mirical happens...
