Friday Night Church Services?

I don't see any Scripture telling us only to associate in worship gatherings on Sunday. If you can find one let me know.

For a couple years the church were I serve had a Saturday night service because our facility was packed out on Sundays. Worked great.

How is having a worship gathering on Friday, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday...any different than Sunday? Just curious.

 

If is working and meeting a need then that is great. I would offer it at my church if we could get enough takers. I can imagine all kinds of things that could be done with such a service.

 

1. I realize you are talking about a church in the good old USA. However, see number 2.

2. Many years ago, while I was stationed in a Middle Eastern country (which shall remain unnamed), we had ALL of our worship services on Friday. The Islamic country would not recognize either the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday) or the Christian Sunday as "weekend" days. Therefore, we had Thursday and Friday off, and worshipped on Friday. Of course, we "officially" were going to visit a friend in one of the compounds where Americans and other nationalities lived. Our friend was "officially" a plumber! We still had 200 to 300 "friends" each week. That plumber sure had a lot of friends!

Occasionally, for security reasons, compounds were closed to non-residents. When that happened, those of us who were Christians usually met in a home in our own compound. I had some of the best Bible studies with a couple of Catholics and an Arabic Christian, when we could not go visit our plumber friend. It's amazing how much Catholics and Baptists have in common, when the Devil is trying to divide us and conquer us. And, yes, I had many strong differences and strident conversations with my Catholic friend. He, by the way, is an evangelistic Catholic now!

3. I firmly agree that no specific day of the week "must" be set aside as "the Lord's day". A church that offers official worship services on "non-standard" days are doing a great service for those who must work on the "standard" day (Sunday in the USA). More of God's power to them, and praise the Lord!!! There have been many times over my life when I had to work on Sundays, and such a service would have been welcome to me!

If They Hold, They'll Come?

Like others have already said, if it gets folks into the church to worship and praise the God, as well as hear the Gospel message, it shouldn't matter what day or night it is held on.

Our church used to hold Friday night family service and Saturday evening praise worship services as well as the traditional Sunday menu.

They only stopped those because the umbers started to wane and enthusiasm by staff eroded too. This is Southern California, and there seems to be something happening every night of the week.

We are one, of very few in the area, that still hold Sunday evening services. Our morning draw (two services) is close to 800, and there around 100 coming to the evening service.

I will be working 0600-1600 on Sundays starting on Mother's Day. I will go to Sunday and Wednesday night services to be fed while I am on this shift. I am in essential services, and I don't want to miss church, so Sunday night and Wed will be my alternatives until this shift is over.

 

I know of a Cowboy church in Canada that has its weekly service on Tuesday evening. When they first formed, the cowboys said the only time they could do trail rides was on the weekend so they were afraid people wouldn't come to church for a Sunday morning service. So, from the get go, they picked Tuesday night for their weekly service. It has worked for years since then with no problems.

 

This is also an issue in the FL Keys. Those who live and work in the vacation industries there find it almost impossible to get away for any Sunday service.

 

I am sure that 7th day adventists will have a wall eyed fit over this, but I don't care what day you worship the LORD...the more days you spend worshipping and serving Him, the better!!! We went to a revival in Aztec NM last night, and it was a wonderful service! So worship and serve every chance you get!!!

And be in church on Sunday as much as you can, since that is the traditional day for the first fruits. :jesus:

 

Not sure why it is a problem to have church when it is convenient.

I will go to a church that has a service when I can attend..whether it be whenever.

 

Great point, Sis Ann!! This is the very thing that makes me detest someone who will try to hold to anything pertaining to the Law. The Law was fulfilled, and now, we are not to esteem one day more than the other. Each day belongs to God, and each day we are blessed to live, we are to rejoice and be glad in it. Now, in regards to the OP, there is nothing wrong with having friday night services, but I still want to have sunday services, too. I guess it is more of a tradition that we all do, or well, most of us do.

 

I don't have a problem. In our church, we have things going on constantly so Friday's are our "night off". But if there were enough people who either asked for a service or some reason enough people couldn't attend the Sunday services, we'd be happy to start one.

 

Now that I work the day shift at my job, I can't always attend church on Sunday mornings due to my work schedule. Having a Friday (or even Saturday) evening service would work out great for me.

I know I can always download the sermon from my church's website, but it's just not the same as being there, fellowshipping and worshiping with others.

 

I am a 911 operator. I don't get to pick and choose when I work, but I have been fortunate to be able to bid on shifts, and so I work less Sundays that way.

Ths shift I started last week is all nights on Friday, Sat, Sun, and Mon for one month.

I will go to Sunday night services and Wed night services until I finish this shift.
