    Salty...

Thanks for posting information on the GARBC Annual Conference. I used to fellowship with a GARBC church when we lived north of here. It is good to see some of the GARBC faces.

GARBC is but one of several smaller Baptist bodies, formed out of the controversies or, in some cases, the ethnic linkages of the past. I wonder if now, as circumstances change, any of these groups have considered merging or joining one another. One could argue that more denominations means more bureaucracy means less mission. Maybe not, but I could see that argument.

Cases in point: the North American Baptist General Conference, German in background, and the Baptist General Conference of America, Swedish in background, seem to working more and more closely with American Baptist Churches USA. I know there are probably no important doctrinal dividers, so maybe that makes it easier for them. Anyone got any clues as to sentiments for bringing together some of the small Baptist bodies?

I grew up in a GARB, my last GARB was in Texas - in 1986 - Faith Baptist (now dispanded)

I would say - no they would not merge with another group

It would seem that you know less about GARBC history than I do. :(

The GARBC was founded by Northern Baptists who had withdrawn from the NBC or had never joined it. The "controversy" was the unchecked modernist influence in NBC missions and in the denomination's seminaries. Why would it join up with the ABCUSA as that body is the NBC under a new name.

Coincidentally we were just fellowshipping with our co-workers across town. They are out of a GARB church, but are only supported by two of them. Some years ago the GARBC stopped having "approved" mission boards and schools, but the word hasn't trickled down yet to the average church. Most of them will only support BMM and ABWE.

Here in Japan, though, the missionaries from BMM fellowship quite a bit with the rest of us IFB missionaries. However, the ABWE folk are way down on Kyushu where no other IFB missionaries are. (And the GARB is a form of IFB, contrary to some thinking.)

Ive always thought of the GARBC as a major sector of IFBdom.

Many (but not all) IFB'ers do not consider the GARB or any other Baptist group to be IBF. They still see any organized group as hierarchy, which takes away from their total autonomy.

So sad these folks are ignorant of the facts. :tear:
