Remember, his eschatology was radically different than today's. He believe dispensationalism was heretical. His was more of a covenental view. Thus, he was much closer to Calvin than most today. A good source on this is http://www.spurgeon.org/eschat.htm.

Thus, when speaking of Spurgeon's end times, I phrase it that he was covenantel believer that believes there is no future for Israel but believes in a 1000 year reign, of sorts.

As well, just to focus, he was not against confessions. Rather he strongly believed in them. He just didn't like all of them.

 

"I wish never to learn the art of tearing God’s meaning out of His own Words. If there is anything clear and plain, the literal sense and meaning of this passage—a meaning not to be spirited or spiritualized away—it must be evident that both the two and the ten tribes of Israel are to be restored to their own land and that a king is to rule over them." —"The Restoration and Conversion of the Jews"

No future for Israel, indeed!
