I would like to solicit your help. Please post YOUR OWN definition or illustration (from the Scriptures or otherwise) of grace.

I am aware of the acronyms- God's Riches At Christ's Expense, and so forth; as well as the definition 'unmerited favor'. I am looking for some different expressions, illustrations, or definitions. We have some good amateur theologians here at the BB (and perhaps even some professional ones) and I'd like to glean from you.

    Thanks!

    Faith:
    Baptist
Mercy = NOT GETTING what I deserve
Grace = GETTING what I do not deserve

Application: I am saved from HELL and judgment of sin by the mercy of God. I am awarded a place in HEAVEN, being declard 'just' by the grace of God.

It is not opposed to effort as many teach, it is opposed to earning.

A lavish gift, given freely, to someone that the giver knows does not deserve it

Not only does not deserve it, but actually deserves punishment.

God gives us something we don't earn when we've earned something worse.

Favored and loved by God Our Father and placed "In Christ" before the world began for no apparent reason known to man other than Ephesians 2:7.

Reading this thread has prompted me to reflect on the many ways God sheds his grace on the undeserving.

    Among them:
    He sent his Son.
His son took the punishment we deserve.
He called missionaries and evangelists and preachers to tell us about these acts of grace.

He opened our eyes to our sin and the need of a Savior.
He made us see our sin as he sees it.
He drew lost people to him.
    He granted them repentance.
    He granted them saving faith.
He gave us a new heart and a new nature.

    None of which we deserved.

    Got any others, anybody?
