Note the date: March 2009. Two years ago.

    Interesting, but nothing new.

Dr. Towns is a good guy. But he's been on this anti-Calvinist crusade for years.

    1. There's no necessary connection between dispensationalism and non-Calvinism. 2. Covenant Theology sees a distinction between the Old and new Testament. In fact, in CT, that IS the two ages or dispensations - OT and NT.

This DOES NOT represent the reformed BAPTIST doctrine. This is preposterous.

Sure, following the BIBLE, right? Let's see, that should keep me up the rest of the night finding that altar call in the Bible...

"Private" interpretation? Okay you Calvinists, keep it private. No talking. And what does this mean, "vote against them"?

That's right, IGNORE THEM. Whatever you do, don't interact with them - you might become one! Shock shock!

And NO ONE overemphasizes John 3:16?

    This is no olive branch!

    J.D. --You Go Guy!

Mister Towns claims he's a Calvinist, believe it or not. Yet not like those extremists who go along with the five points. LOL! Towns is as Calvinistic as Norm Geisler --that is semi-Pelagian/Arminian.

Among other errors that Towns came up with was that:"In his early life John Calvin espoused extreme positions on predestination in his theology called The Institutes of the Christian Religion. Later in life Calvin seemed to mellow his view on predestination..."

I hear this all the time on the BB from people who should know better. Calvin enlarged his Institutes several times in his life --the last time in 1559 a few years before his death. He didn't amend his views one whit. He didn't "mellow" his views on predestination. His big book on the subject Eternal Predestination of God,was published in 1552 --a mere 12 years before his death.

    Towns:
This is inexcusable. Guilt by association. First of all, Servetus was an Arian blasphemer that openly challenged the civil laws of the Genevan magistrate. He was not a Christian Martyr.

Secondly, Towns implies that "five-pointers" have an "intolerant DNA".

Towns, Falwell, et al., should have remained IFB where they could better assail their brethren with impunity.

Yes, and while some like to pretend the he did not hold to Limited Atonement, they miss that fact that he was unequivocally a DOUBLE PREDESTINARIAN, putting him squarly in the - dare I say it? - in the "hyper" camp! A hyper! Ohhh nooooo... [It just occured to me - that makes Calvin a Hyper-Calvinist. Interesting indeed.]

And after reading the article, I regret deleting my first post, which I had regretted since it was not related to the OP, but now that I'm on a rant, I might as well go ahead and say it:

Isn't Towns the guy that said that Ergun Caner's lies were "ministerial pulpit speaking" or something like that?

Okay, I'm done for now. I'm off to find that altar call in the Bible (without which apparently no one can be saved)...

JD, you're going to have to stop being so wishy-washy. Just say what you mean.

Interesting comments on the article... As usuall there is much passion surrounding these issues...
I once listened to Adrian Rogers preach on the sovereignty of God and he sounded like a Calvinist....The message I see in scripture is that God is competly sovereign, and man is completely responsible; God preordained everything and man is without excuse.... How does that work I think only God knows, but that is the great thing about Gods wisdom, far above our own...One day those who are saved will know perfectly and will spend eternity praising Him for that wisdom and grace...
