The Southern Baptist Convention has done the right thing by calling for a quicker path to citizenship at the local convention.

    Notice:

    And again

I am not a Southern Baptist, but I am glad they are coming my way on this issue.

    Disagree

If citizenship is made easy for illegals* what will stop more from coming over. Regan tried it in 1986- did it accomplish its mission - I think not.

I think Blogger Michael Priceless said it very well: "
Why do Mexican immigrants believe they have the right to make America better for Mexicans? Why can’t they make Mexico better for Mexicans?"

Is it fair for an illegal* to get citizenship quicker than someone who has jumped through all the legal government red tape?

Or should the United States adopt the policy of Mexico?

Yes, as Christians we should have compassion. And Southern Baptist and the US govt have been very compassionate to other countries. Lets do things in an orderly fashion.

    * Illegal alien - I refuse to use the political correct term of undocumented immigrants for someone breaking the law.

    Salty,

Personally, I believe the law itself is immoral as it creates a right that does not exist, namely the right to exclude people from our country who pose no real or imminent threat to our country or people. Our laws are immoral on the basis that it judges human worth for entering our country based upon abilities and worth to the United States, rather than just merely examining if they are a threat to our people.

Thus, the laws of our land are unjust, placing net worth of people by occupation or abilities and not considering all people made in God's image. Yes, keep felons, terrorists, and drug runners out... but let everyone else in. Until America sees each person with a human worth from God, we will continue to have immoral laws that discriminate by creating a soft caste system of immigrants.

It was narrowly passed and quite controversial. They did not call for a quicker path but that a path for citizenship should be made after first securing the borders and restitution made.

I don't see why the Convention is even addressing this as it's not a religious matter. I'm going to express my strong disagreement with the resolution. My Salvadoran grandmother didn't immigrate to the United States lawfully in 1964 so these illegal Mexicans can prance across the border and take our jobs and drive down wages. I say prosecute illegal enterers and deport the illegals, with a very few exceptions, and start throwing employers of illegal aliens in jail.

    Paul,

I think it is a moral matter. When people are made in God's image and our system discriminates against people by merely their net worth to America, not their worth as people, I think that puts a price tag on humans. This is not right and should be condemned.

It is a moral issue. It is immoral to illegally enter another country and then hide from authorities.

Controversial it may have been, but so was opposing slavery.

I am glad you see it as a moral issue, can you stand with me in saying this is an unjust law because it divides people by their net worth to our country? Can you condemn, along with me, the idea that we judge people based upon their perceived worth to a country rather than their inherent worth as people.

The point was it is not widely supported by the convention. Only by a small majority of those who attended the convention.

I totally agree.. .it is a moral issue.. even Jesus said that how we treat "strangers".. immigrants ... is the way we treat him. Putting our earthly citizenship above our Kingdom citizenship is a sin.

I don't care if it was a small majority or a large majority. They made a statement. The largest conservative denomination made a positive statement, and it was the right statement. I did wish they went further, but I am glad they went as far as they did.

I never said illegal aliens are not as worthy as people as others. I do, however, believe our national policy should be in the best interests of citizens, not illegals. We can't afford to stand by idly as our country is invaded by illegal aliens.

The law itself is immoral, thus no matter what people think the policy should be, an immoral law should be morally opposed. Thus, we oppose abortion because the law is immoral. We should oppose these laws for the same reason.

No one is saying we should let terrorists into the country. This is an obvious red herring. What we are saying is that our modern laws are immoral. My second post stated that we should ensure we protect our country from those who would hurt us. Yet, we should not make our laws based upon people's net worth to our country, not worth because they are made in God's image.

Ruiz, what about the Americans who are suffering because of the illegals? The illegals take jobs when we have 9% unemployment and drive down wages. Are they worth less than illegals?

I use the same rationale for ending slavery.

Premise, all humans are made in God's image.

    1. Our current laws base immigration upon people's net worth to America. Thus, a professional person is more likely to be allowed to immigrate than non professionals.

    2. This bases their net worth by the sole basis of profession, country, or economic level.

    3. Such net worth appraisals sets up people in a hierarchy.

    4. Thus, we have placed a higher worth on certain humans.

Such is in violations of the premise.
