Since the Bible refers to it being the 'Time of Jacobs troubles/Day of the Lord" times when isreal will be attacked/purged/cleansed by the Lord, and also time when God judges/destroys the kingdoms of man, politically, economically, spiritually etc

What reason for the Church to "endure" it than?

There is none. The church will not go through the tribulation.

My guess would be that those who claim such (presumably mid or post-trib) would say "to separate the sheep from the goats".

But doesn't the Lord already know His own?

The purpose of all trials surely is to make us more like Jesus, who went through the ultimate trial of death!

True, but the purpose of the Great Tribulation is for God to rain Judgement down upon ungodly system and peoples, why would he send that upon his people promised to be spared from his wrath?

Short answer...there is no reason. It is a time of God's wrath and reconciliation to His people to fulfil His promises to the jewish people by restoring them to their promised land. The wrath and judgement for us was done at calvary.

21 for then shall be great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever shall be.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be accomplished. Mt 24

There is no reason whatsoever. The purpose of the tribulation is to get the attention of Israel and for them to see that Jesus Christ IS the Messiah promised. That's why the 144,000 witnesses will be JEWISH witnesses. That's why the 2 witnesses (Moses and Elijah) will be sent for 3 1/2 years...to the JEWS. God's purpose is that not one be lost. The church is already the bride of Christ. There is no purpose for them to suffer through the tribulation, but instead be in Heaven rejoicing and celebrating the Marriage Feast of the Lamb.

Who says there is a linear period of tribulation? Seems to me the Scriptures speak of amorophously about such events.

To Go, or Not to Go?

If we go before the tribulation, PTL...if we don't, woe be to those who were thinking they'd miss out on the great suffering and persecution.

I'd rather be ready for the worst case scenario, and come through it victioriously, than be left wondering why, and struggle with my fiath.

Can any of you who are hoping to go before the world falls apart honestly say you would be ready to face the tribulation and the disappointment of not going in the first round without doubting your faith?

Agreed. However I feel it will be Enoch and Elijah who will be brought back since neither experienced death, but were in a way "raptured". We really don't know the supernatural abilities of Enoch since little is known of him, but he very well could perform similar miracles attributed to Elijah. As well, we would have a Pre-Flood witness as well as a Post-Flood witness during the Tribulation. I feel there will be an enormous amount of "supernatural" activity (both "good" and "evil") during the Tribulation.

Yes, of course JF, but how He works things out in the process of time sometimes don't make a lot of sense to us and neither the manner in which He does them.

Yes I certainly can as my faith is not bound up in the rapture or its timing, but in the Lord Jesus Christ.

If the Holy Spirit is the restrainer?

If the Holy Spirit is the restrainer and the restrainer is removed or taken out of the way. Then those who have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them would have to go where He goes. This is the biggest reason I believe in a pretrib rapture. I haven't any proof that the Holy Spirit is the restrainer except who else would have that kind of power. We all think the world is such a sinful place but the worst is yet to come.

    What say you?

I agree. I have heard some say the restrainer is Michael, but based on his WWE match over Moses' body it's doubtful :)

I think a key is in who will be doing the witnessing (2 witnesses, 144k, angel of Rev. 14). The command of every believer now is to have this role. Where are we at, and why aren't we mentioned as proclaiming the gospel during this time...does the GT expire or something?

It has been interesting to see all the discussion. And it has triggered a bunch of questions, particularly about the flat statements of fact. So I start with you, DL, but ask anybody else to chime in with answers as well.

    1. Believers and churches throughout history have never been immune from persecution and tribulation. Why is this time different?

    2. Rev 7 says the 144,000 are sealed, but where does it say they are Jewish Evangelists? How come Gad is not there? How come Manasseh is there but not Ephraim?

    3. Is this a literal number, or symbolic?

    4. Are the 144,000 in Rev 7 the same as the ones in Rev. 14? And why are they all men? Why are those in Rev 7 on earth, and those in Rev 14 in heaven?

    5. The two witnesses in Rev. 11. Who says they are Moses and Elijah? Why aren't they Enoch and Elijah, as some claim.

    6. Rev 11 describes the two witnesses as two candlesticks and two olive trees. Does that mean one of them is two candlesticks and the other two olive trees? Or that each one of the witnesses is both a candlestick and an olive tree?

    7. Does that mean the two witnesses could be symbolic? If so, of what?
One view is that one of them is the olive tree is symbolic of Israel and the candlestick is symbolic of the churches (Rev 1:20). Could this be right. Why or why not?

    8. Rev. 7 tells of multitudes in heaven from every nation, tongue, tribe, etc. They are described as martyrs from the tribulation. They are not Jews. Does this mean Gentiles will be saved during the Tribulation? Or, that saved Gentiles will go into the Tribulation?

My purpose here is to seek clarity, not to argue. (Well, maybe a little bit).

It's true the church isn't mention during the tribulation. The body of Christ has been taken with the Holy Spirit and sin really raises hell then. I'm not sure who the two witnesses are exactly. I have speculated of course about the Bible and it's two witnesses and I have thought about Moses and Elijah. I would hope it would be someone with supernatural powers to convince as many as possible of the truth. What I wonder about most is how are they saved with out the Holy Spirit? Since I know His conviction has to be the best there is, it worked on me.

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Christ promised to keep those who kept the word of His patience, what is the word of God's patirence. 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

It appears God's patience in those who come to repentence, that would be those saced in this current age. Of which God is holding back His judgement so people can continue to be saved until He knows the time for the Son to return.

Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

At this point the rapture takes place as the Tribulation begins with the beginning of sorrows.
Verse 9 and forward deals with the Tribulation and the Great Tribulation, notice Matthew 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Notice verse 33 when you shall see these things what things the signs that Christ has just mentioned. The Generation which won't pass away is the one that sees the sign of His coming that might be ours or the next generation, but noone has seen these signs like we have. The generation that will not pass away is the generation that sees the tribulation and the fulfillment of Judgement. Scripture is very clear on all this.

    1. Christ says those who keep the word of His patience, (those saved) will not see the hour of testing or the hour of the tirbulation.

    2. The signs we as Believers to watch for before the rapture, For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows We are seeing these times right now, when the church is snatc hed away as 1 Thessalonians 4 tells us the balance of Matthew 24 begins.

    3. The generation that sees the signs Christ warned about will not passaway until all has been fulfilled.

Scripture is very clear on all of this, the Snatching away of the Church will occur because Christ promised the church would not go through it, the generation that sees the signs Christ spoke is the generation that sees the rapture occurs and the tribulation begins.

Daniel in the last of the 70 weeks says there will be, John in Revelation says there will be and Jesus in Matthew 24 says there will be.

Enough proof of a Literal tribulation for me.
