Every year we see this familiar trait. Gas prices go way up. People complain and cut back on gas usage, and lo and behold, the prices miraculously begin to head back down, but they never reach the level they were at when the skyrocketing began!

We are all supposed to get happy and thank our politicians for "finally" doing something, but few of us ever question why the prices never return to the levels they once were!

Sure gas is now heading back down, just in time to make it easier for Americans to hit the road and have a family vacation.

My concern is, no matter how far down the prices fall, they never quite return to what they were. Does anyone else wonder why this is becoming a yearly trend?!?

I predict that the oil companies, and the government is working to get Americans accustomed and more comfortable with paying higher prices to fill up their tanks, and they continue to use this very predictable formula as they nudge us toward the number they want to eventually be the norm.

One day, Americans will pay five, six, or even seven dollars for a gallon of gas, and they won't "bat an eye!" And the reason why is that like cattle being led to slaughter, we are slowly being moved toward the goal of the greedy capitolists in charge of the oil companies. Americans truly have that "deer in the headlights stare" but, this age old formula is working in to dupe us into paying higher prices with the same old raise the price; reduce it (but not anywhere close to what it was); and wait until next Spring, and jack it way, way up again.

If it works, why bother to fix it? Let's all rejoice, and take that long deserved vacation. Prices have, again, declined, and even though the cost is still fifty to seventy cents a gallon higher than last year; the oil companies and DC have generously put a few cents back in our pockets, until next year, that is!

Bad news for government motors and a very expensive roller skate called a Volt.

Good news for democrats who would love to add a gasoline tax now that it's been proven people will pay $4 a gallon for fuel with a tolerable negative effect on the economy.

Obama our savior, he caused the price of gas to go down. Don't get too excited I haven't seen such a great drop in gas in my neighborhood, only about 5 cents. I'll bet it will be closer to raising 50 cents before summer is over.

I used to wonder about it. Then I read that there are 10 million new drivers being added per year in India and China. More and more people in these countries are joining their middle class and purchasing cars. Demand is continually being increased whereas supply is controlled by OPEC. They aren't too keen on increasing production so prices will probably never revert to where they once were.

    Well Said ITL,

And for this reason, and this reason alone, we must begin to develop our own oil production right here in the US of A!

We have the crude, why in the world we are leaving it lie dormant and untapped flabbergasts me. If we wait until all the other nations run dry in drilling, there will surely be a big war by the oil starved nations coming to take what we now lay claim to.

Let's at least drill for and provide for at least half of the oil we use in the US. If we start using more US crude and less imported crude, I would think that should even help to pay down our national debt, should it?

Oil is a worldwide commodity. Free market systems allow oil companies to sell to the highest bidder. Oil produced by U.S. wells would go on the world market. Unless you want to have the U.S. make a law that oil produced in the U.S. must be used in the U.S. I suppose you could but that smacks of socialism.

100% correct!. Let's burn Arab oil until the Saudis run dry. Our oil will then be worth much more.
