Report: Obama Films Campaign Ad In White House, Possibly Violating FEC Laws

In the video, President Obama promotes a "Dinner With Barack" raffle. To participate in the contest you need to donate at least $5 to the president's re-election campaign and your name will be raffled off to enjoy a dinner with the President, airfare and accommodations included. In a new web video, Obama announced Vice President Joe Biden will also be attending the dinner.

There is one problem, however. This campaign ad was most likely recorded in the White House, which may have violated FEC campaign finance laws.

'Most likely' and 'may have' are not great words on which to build a news story.

Did you read the article with the accompanying pictures? It's apparent it was.

actually, to stay within FEC (and FCC rules) you are not REQUIRED to make a donation. I understand there is a small box indicating that in a small corner.

Supporters are asked to donate to the DCCC to automatically qualify for the drawing, but the fine print makes clear that no donation is required.

and the Republicans are going to have their own raffle! But everyone who enters, will be a guaranteed winner!

An identical lamp is hardly striking evidence. Lets see how the facts play out instead of conjecture.

I really enjoyed their lame excuses.

The one missing was that "it wasn't in the white house".

The reason is obvious. It was.

Obama Aides Defend Use of White House Room for Campaign Pitch Read more: http://www.

The White House offered a vigorous defense Tuesday of a presidential campaign video filmed inside 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., saying no lines were crossed by using federal facilities in a political pitch.

The Democratic National Committee video advertises the campaign's "Dinner With Barack" raffle -- the campaign wants donors to contribute $5 or more for the chance at having dinner with the president. In the video, President Obama tells supporters that, in a last-minute addition to sweeten the deal, Vice President Biden will join them.

"Hope to see you soon," Obama said, before the video directs viewers to the website where they can donate and sign up.

This does test the limits. However, FEC guidelines stipulate that campaign ads must clearly state certain words ("vote for," "Support," "Defeat," etc.) or else it is an "issue ad" that fall outside the purview of campaign ads. I can't imagine the lawyers would let him do this ad in violation of FEC guidelines, unless it's to call attention to these guidelines. Dems raised similar objections regarding photos of George W. Bush on the phone from Air Force One taken on 9/11 used in his '04 reelection campaign.

You reckon theses are the same lawyers who told him it was OK to join in the attacks on Libya without congressional approval?
