I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the post about the Convention passing a "clean" form/version of the Dream Act!

If the Convention is passing this, what will be next:

    • A cleaner form of the Abortion Act?
    • A clean form of a Gay Marriage Act?
    • A clean form of Women Preachers Act?
Where does this insanity stop? The church has to stand for something, or, it will surely bend with the winds of time and public opinion. :tear:

This is where the main stream Protestant Churches (Lutherans, Presbyterians, etc.) have gone to over time. So, where does the SBC stand in the future on liberal views? Letting people who came here without properly entering and applying for citizenship has to be a moral stand that the church should back 100%. :tear:

Of course, this is merely my opinion, but as an American; it is my right under the freedom of speech act.

There are those who will disagree, but I pray the number of detractors be less than the number of supporters.

    Shalom,

    Pastor Paul :type:

Maybe the SBC recognizes that God cares about Heavenly Citizenship more than Earthly Citizenship...

The church has no place in worshipping nationalism...

WE are called to accept ALL.. regardless of nationality.

The Bible is clear that God cares for the alien among us.. and God doesn't stipulate they have to be documented.

Quit worshipping America, and start worshipping God.

    Lev 19:33-34
    (33) " 'When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him.
    (34) The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

We are commanded to treat them the same way as we treat a native-born....
    OH wait...

    I forgot..

We don't want to do that!.. I mean, look at how us Europeans treated the Native Americans!... Never mind.

The church is the Kingdom of God..
As such we must reflect the Kingdom principles...

Treating Widows, orphans and the Aliens right is a kingdom principle you can't escape from in the Bible.

    God cares about them.. .

Kudos to the SBC for not bowing to the nationalist worshippers that care more for America than they do God's kingdom.

I have already left the SBC as they have turned ever more liberal and are steadily leaving the principles of the Lord.

This whole thread is one giant ad hominem against a good convention.

This is a good idea for the convention a I stand behind it. Anyone who says the SBC is becoming "liberal" (whatever that means) is just wrong.

Amen and amen....and it's strange that I find myself agreeing with the SBC these days.

Uh, I'm remembering the Sesame Street song, "one of these things is not like the others....believing in female pastors is not liberal. To assert so is ridiculous.

Why is it wrong to just have us require that the 'Alien" people among us be forced to follow official procedures in order to become legal citizens?

can treat them with respect, but also can require them to follow up and "do the right thing!"

    The facts

I am not aware of the SBC supporting the Dream act.

    From the story below

However, this is what really happened. Dr. Richard Land, director of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Committee said that with some modifications he could support the Dream Act:

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2011-07-01-dream-act-southern-baptists_n.htm

Once we have our facts, then we can debate a topic. But only then.

How is the Dream Act a theological issue? In any event, tinytim provided some scripture regarding how Israel was to treat foreigners. Can anyone provide any further scripture?

That passage is dealing with treating those in the land who are permitted to being in the land and they are to be treated the same way as any Hebrew is treated. It is not dealing with illegals, who are criminals. Holding Illegals responsible for their illegal entry or over staying their visa is not treating them badly. It is exercising justice and if justice were done they would stop coming illegally.

What forms did the alien in Israel have to fill out?

What were the immigration laws in Israel?

The Kingdom principle is found throughout the Old Testament. And Jesus emphasizes it when he speaks about how to treat the "Stranger" in Matt. 25.

God has a special place in his heart for immigrants trying to better themselves.

The only reason Americans are against it is pride and Greed....

    "They are taking "OUR" jobs"
    "We were here first"
"They should learn English like we speak"

It is Nationalism at it's core, and if you are more proud to be an American than a Citizen of the Kingdom of God, I feel sorry for you.

As a Kingdom of God Citizen we are commanded to treat ALL humans the same.
Even those that don't have the right documents.

We are also to follow the law, we do not throw away forms because ancient Israel did not have them. That statement doesn't even contain any intellect. We are to treat aliens with kindness, sending them back illegal aliens to their country so that they may enter legally and stay is being kind. When they are here legally, they are not under the threat of being sent back or be paid unfairly.

Agreed...excellent point. We don't only take into consideration illegals when dealing with love and kindness. Is it loving or kind to make the legal immigrant who had to become a citizen, find a job and pay taxes while we just lovingly and kindly look the other way with the illegals? Something being right is not always related to perception.

Love You Tim, but Not Your View!

You are playing a game of semantics. Shame on you! While I love you as a brother, you should be in favor of everybody obeying the laws of the land, regardless of where they have come from.

I believe Jesus even said to His followers that they were to render unto Caesar that which was Caesar's. That is the best example I have in Scripture that we are to follow the laws of the land in which we abide.

The illegal aliens in America have broken laws, and they are not "rendering unto Ceasar that which is his."

Those who cross the border without a passport, or stay longer than their passport permits are not following the laws, and they deserve the justice of the land they have transgressed.

Your argument is without the support of the Word, and you know this. Your argument is to open the door to chaos, and I know that is not what Jesus meant when he spoke in Matthew 22:21.

You are cleverly disguising your arguments in theological and moral semantics that pull upon the heartstrings of others. You know that everything in God's Kingdom is orderly, and even in His Kingdom, no one will illegally enter.

Just as real as hell is for those who fail to comply with His laws of grace, are the laws of this nation in making those who have no legal right to be here to be allowed to remain here. They have no legal right or claim to citizenship without following the steps laid out by the laws of this nation. Your forefather,s as well as mine, followed those laws, so why should any of us expect anything less of those who want to become americans.

I say get in line, or go back home. The Bible says receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, or go straight to Gehenna (Greek γέεννα), Gehinnom (Rabbinical Hebrew: גהנום/גהנם) and Yiddish Gehinnam, are terms derived from a place outside ancient Jerusalem known in the New Testament as Hell...There are no short cuts to eternal life, likewise, there are no short cuts to becoming an American citizen.

My forefathers came before the crazy immigration laws were set up.. My forefathers came in the 1600s.. they just had to survive the trip.. now we have immigration laws that hinder immigration. My forefather didn't have to Pay to be here.. now, an immigrant can't afford to come here.

ONLY the rich foreigners are allowed in..
    That's not fair.

All should be welcome, rich, poor, etc..

YOu may say I don't know what I'm talking about..
    well I do..
I have given money to help illegals become legal.. and it's not cheap...

OUr forefathers didn't have to put up with the stinkin redtape the immigrants today have to put up with.

If you are so concerned, get off your rear, and go find an illegal, and offer to pay for them to become legal.. many want to, but can't afford it because our government discrimates against the poor immigrant and the rich one.

Our country's immigration laws must be changed to stop this discrimination.

Just an aside here.. not wanting to hijack this thread.. PM me if you want.. but what do you mean by failing to comply with His laws of Grace?

That sounds like a backwards way of saying we have to work for Grace... and I know you well enough to know you don't mean that.
