I asked my pastor the other day if he had ever run into a KJVO. He replied that he had indeed. After a service in which he keenly felt the presence of the Lord and a wonderful baptism and godly testimony a visitor cam up to him and aknowledged how good the message was and the Baptism was a blessing "But you ruined it all my using the Devil's Bible --the NIV."

The only response my pastor had was no response. Sometimes sheer ignorance has to be met with silence. He has preached from the NIV for a quarter of a century and I dare anyone to find a liberal bone in his body.

Just last Sunday a woman was baptized. It was very moving. In her testimony she related how she had been a part of the Roman Catholic Church for 38 years. But in her reading of "the NIV Bible" and attending church here she came to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

That stuck out in the minds of others too with that plug. Well,I'm sure some would say the same about their reading of the NLT,HCSB,ESV or even the KJV!

Great poll idea - which translation was useful to you in understanding salvation and coming to Christ?

I remember Bro Tom Cassidy, a staunch supporter of the KJV, who would say the RSV. For me, it was the 1901ASV.

God's Word - in good or mediocre or even lousy translations - is STILL POWERFUL. For which we praise His Name.

I would have to say.....none. It was personal witnessing by some friends. Maybe I'm not saved?

My first few months as a Christian all I had was "Good News for Modern Man" and an RSV. I was able to follow along quite well with my KJVP pastor and church until I received a KJV Scofield Bible for Christmas.

Mine was my parents' prayers/witnessing to me with God's word as found in the NASV. (However, the NKJV is my fave everyday version.)

The NIV for me. When I began reading the NIV, I understood scripture for the first time; and it was the translation I was reading when I came to understand and accept the gift of salvation.

The good ole KJV was enough for me :).

I still have the Bible on my desk that was on my lap some 37 years ago when I read 'These things have I written unto that believe on the name of the son of God; that you that you might know that you have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the son of God.'

    I didn't know - now I do :)
