Yes, folks, on Aug 2, unless Congress votes to increase it. Your views: should Congress up the ceiling or should there be belt-tightening in Washington?

We really have no choice at this time except to extend the ceiling, sad and wrong as that is. :BangHead:

We had a TON of choice about 5 years ago and made the wrong one at about every step. Now we stand at a point where the slightest bobble will deflate our economy and hyper-inflate our currency. Worst is that our national leaders know all that and choose to play politics as usual.

Note that I am not picking political sides. Culpability all over the place.

How would I fix things? It is all rather simple, though painful right now.

Begin eliminating federal subsidies, earmarks, and entitlements for all except the truly needy (those who simply cannot, instead of those who merely wish not to, work, exist, etc.). If some things fail because of the elimination of subsidies, then they were a bad plan to begin with. All designated entailment money goes directly to the recipient not passed through 20 sets of government hands (that all take a cut) first.

Second, invest federal dollars into things that actually matter instead of things that get votes.

Third, ban the lobby of Congress the way it currently exists. Everyone has a voice, but that voice should not carry with it the promise of fame and fortune for casting a vote in this direction versus that.

Fourth, return the Senate to a States rights first position, whereby the states appoint their senators who represent them instead of a popularity contest where the winner wins for life.

Fifth, privatize at least half of SS and all of Medicare, Medicaid, etc. If people act foolishly that is their business. Right now, we're ALL forced to act foolishly and there is no return on our investment.

Sixth, reduce the size of government to 25% of current, including removal of any federal control of environment, education, drugs, etc. (virtually all cabinet and czar positions that are not mandated by the Constitution).

Seventh, make unions unconstitutional -- they are Marxist by nature and have no true role in a Republic.

And finally, implement a use tax instead of an income tax. With that, stop taxing people when they are successful. Let people make money and they'll solve every problem we have.
