IF a Christian was applying for membership in your local baptist Church, would you "honor" as valid a baptism done by immersion by a Non Baptist Church that upheld Essentials of the faith, and practiced believers baptism then?

We accept the Baptism of non-Baptist churches IF the church practices only believers baptism by immersion. If a person who was baptized in a church that practices baby baptism, sprinkling and immersion, we as a rule do not accept it.

    Possibly.

The key description is "like faith and order." We'd have to look at the baptizing church's doctrinal statement and ecclesiology.

We would accept baptisms from some Baptist churches, but not all. For example, I would require re-dunking of General Baptists and Free-Will Baptists.

I'm one member of my church and do not speak for it, but that's the way I would go.

I will not re-baptize (immersion) anyone. For example, the Church of England will immerse a believer if they request baptism. The person being baptized has met the biblical requirements of the personal testimony.

    Cheers,

We accept baptisms from any Christian church so long as it is by immersion, following conversion.

Our church accepted my husband's who was baptized by immersion at Jesus '77 or '76 in a large baptism. :) So I'd say "Yes".

We hold that IF one was watre baptism as Infant, or as a non believer, was NOT a real baptism, so not "re baptised" but baptized for first time!

We accept as valid Believers baptism as long as believers baptism by a Church that upholds essentials of the faith regardless IF baptist or not!

Nevermind looking at the church, but at the person who was baptized...It is their testimony! By my baptism, I am obeying the Lord, and I am witnessing to His death, burial and resurrection.

    Cheers,

    Jim

What if a person was not baptized in an organized church? If a person was baptized at the time & place of salvation by the believer(not a pastor) who shared the gospel with them, would that be accepted as a legitimate baptism?

The baptism needs to be verifiable and sanctioned by a church of like faith and by immersion.

What is considered to be "life faith" though?

Wouldn't that include" bible believing/practicing" Churches that are not Baptists, but uphold essentials of the Christian Faith?

If a man was baptized on the battlefield in time of war, would your church accept the chaplain's letter?

I think some are placing more "power" in the hands of a local church, than the New Testament requires.

    Cheers,

    Jim

What are the "...essentials of the Christian Faith", where is that list found in scripture? Who decides what is to be considered so?

Like faith and order, even if they didn't wear the name Baptist. If they are of like faith and order they are essentially Baptist.

Some congregations may make Calvinism (or non-Cal) a test of fellowship, but mine doesn't. If it did, I would be denied membership.

Cessation of gifts could be a problem. If somebody started speaking in tongues in my church, or started advocating it, they'd be history.

Jim, you have put your finger on one of the issues regarding baptism. Is it a Christian ordinance or a local church ordinance?

In my view it is a local church ordinance. You, of course, see it differently.
    That's why I would favor re-dunking, and you wouldn't.

As I mentioned in my response to Jim, the answer will depend on whether you consider baptism a Christian ordinance or a church ordinance.

In the New Testament, how many were baptized in the nearest water quite apart from a local church?

The local congregation where I was immersed believed in dispensationalism. Perhaps I should be re-baptized in a baptist church.

    Too late now.

    Cheers,

    Jim
