    See: http://eyeonfreedom.com/index.php/obama-gives-his-staff-a-raise-on-your-dime/

The following article, is one of many about a raise given to WH staff.

Let me try to understand this. People are unemployed; seniors have not received an increase in benefits in over two years; our national debt is so high, that both parties are fighting tooth-and-nail as to whether it should be raised any higher; the WH and America are nearly drowning in red ink; our credit rating may be lowered; there is talk about America defaulting on its loans; blah, blah, blah!

So where does the WH get the money, and guts, to give out pay increases to its staff? Where are they getting the money to make this raise a reality?

Something is really wrong with America, and it will take an administration with a sharp knife to cut back on the frivolous spending that is going on in DC and across the nation. It will take an administration that is not afraid to be scorned and looked upon with complete disdain for doing. What is right and what is needed in order to set this ship straight before she hits bottom and can never sail again?

Handing out raises to WH staff while many Americans are losing their homes, and facing the possibility of what they'll do when the unemployment checks quit coming in. It is not the right thing to do, nor is it the proper thing to do while too many Americans are living without hope, and the American dream is a nightmare gone awry

We can't hand out raises while Americans look on with the sense of hopelessness and despair.

Sorry Mr. President, but this is not the time right time to dole out pay increases. Use your head, and stand your ground. American's need to tighten the belt if we expect to get a hold of this runaway train of financial ruin! :tonofbricks:

Sorry, Pastor Paul, but yet again, a thread (this one about a raise given to government officials in your country, compared to the belt-tightening needed) should not be on a forum called "General Baptist Discussions" on an international board like the BB (in my opinion - others may disagree). It is about a political matter, and although individual baptists may well have opinions on it, the subject-matter would surely fit better in the "Politics" forum.

    David,

You are correct, but in RD2's defense, he could be following the lead of an administrator who posted in here with wrong subject. He said he wanted to make sure it got read, he did move it a couple of days latter. But, his explanation justified it.

(tho I do not think RD2 did this intentionally)

Overall staff has been cut, overall average salaries fell, and the White House staff budget has been cut by $1.7M. This is a problem?

Remaining staffers are probably doing more work than before, shouldn't they get paid more?

Please read the entire article, not just the slanted part you want to comment on.

    Let Me Explain

I don't disagree that this is a political issue. However, it is also an issue of stewardship, and it relates to all of us who are struggling to make ends meet at the end of each month.

It is a topic that could be placed in either category, but I believed it should be something that all of us should know about and discuss. There can't be one person on this board who does not personally know someone who has lost their home, losing their home, unemployed, underemployed, or struggling.

With this in mind, this topic is one of interest and concern to all Baptists, not just those who read the political forum. We should be deeply concerned with what is going on in the pent(white)house. This is not as much political as it is moral and ethical, and needs our complete attention.

To bury this in the Political stories, would be a dis-service to all Americans. Those who lead this nation are saying one thing, and doing another. These are grounds for moral, ethical, and politcal hypocrisy.

As for my one brother who says there is less staff (due to layoffs) to do more work, thus these folks deserve to make more.

Let me say this: As a State of California middle manager that was responsible for managing a unit of analysts who monitored the welfare and safety of children in family child care homes; we were always experiencing staff layoffs. Hiring freezes, etc., and it left my staff at half the manpower, double and triple the work, and worse yet, there was a five-year wage freeze.

That equated to us doing two to three times more work, with no raises to compensate for the overload. No Governor gave us an 8% raise, or any percent of a raise. In fact, the salary/wage freeze went on for more than eight years (total).

They expected us to get blood out of stones, and we did just that, at no additional cost to the taxpayers of California.

If those of us in Community Care Licensing could do it, why can't the WH staff?

America is seeing true class warfare. Warfare that forgets about those on the bottom rungs while it rewards those on the top rungs. How sad this is. And it is not a political issue, David. It is a moral and ethical issue that needs to be exposed and talked about.

Change won't come if we bury this concern under the Political Topic Catagorey. It is one of those topics that speaks about prudent stewardship, moral fairness, and ethical standards for all Americans, not just the elite few.

This is not the case, and I hope this topic, in this category, gets a lot of solid talk, feedback, and Christian discussion.

David, thanks for your point, because it is understood, it just doesn't ring out liberty for all in this case!

    Let Freedom Ring,

    NOT a Baptist issue...

We baptists believe in separation of church and state.

MOds, please move this to the political forum where Americans can fight it out.

If We Practice What YOU Preach...

Then there should not even be a political forum on this Baptist forum.

When the actions of our political leadership begins to have negative impact on Americans, than we need to forget about some imaginary line separating church and state. This recent action by the WH is not a political issue...it is a moral, ethical, and stewardship concern that tears down any walls separating church and state.

Sorry tt, I don't see your point. Since when does the church not referrence politics in its Sunday morning services? Providing an innvocation at the local city and county coucil meetings? Or, when has the church not taken time to salute our veterans, honor the flag, and reflect upon the sacrifice of those fallen heroes from wars in the past? We cannot completely separate the church from the state especially when the state infringes upon the comfort, safety and welfare of the people who make up the church which in turn exists in the state?

Love you TT, but, on this issue we are spearated in our understanding of the morality that separates church and state when the state is comitting wrongs against the people of the state and the church!

Thanks you Pastor Paul for taking the time to reply.

I don't want to derail the thread, so I'll just make two short comments:

    1. Taken to its logical conclusion, the idea of reaching the largest possible "audience" would mean doing away with all the seperate forums, and just have all messages going to "The Baptist Board". But wouldn't that be very cumbersome?

    2. Although I do appreciate that the majority of BB members are Americans, as I understand it, membership is open to people of all nationalities.

But thanks again, and let me assure you that I wasn't suggesting you had any ulterior motive in posting where you did.

It doesn't bother most here that companies pay their staff tens of millions but cry and moan when the WH staff gets a piddling raise. I suspect none of them are making more than 200K.
