I recently ordered a used but very good condition Rock of Ages Study Bible.

It would be my very favorite except for one thing--it came from NC. I live in the arid west, have mild asthma and severe allergies, and the smell of the thing sets me off.

I've been watching for a clean original version Pilgrim Study Bible instead.

Found a nice one at a garage sale this morning for $1.

    It's a 1952, no markings, excellent condition.

    YIPPEE!!

I have a hardback edition of the 1952 Pilgrim Edition of the KJV.

I also have the updated 2003 New Pilgrim Bible of that earlier edition.

The 2008 Rock of Age Study Bible has mainly the same KJV text as that found in the 2003 New Pilgrim Bible and mostly the same study notes.

The KJV edition in the later New Pilgrim Bible differs from the KJV in the 1952 Pilgrim Edition. The text of the KJV edition in the 1952 Pilgrim Edition is more like the text of the KJV in the old Scofield Reference Bible while the text of the KJV in the New Pilgrim Bible is more like the text in the later Scofield Study Bible.

Now you are raising an issue I brought up before: textual differences in Bibles labeled KJV.

    Are they significant?

According to a consistent application of KJV-only claims and reasoning, a number of them could be considered significant.

Likely most of them would not be that major or significant.

There was one KJV-only web site that identified some present KJV editions as supposedly being "counterfeit" for some very minor differences. Some of those differences that were claimed to make an edition of the KJV "counterfeit" was the printing of "to day" as one word "today" or "to-day" and the printing of "twoedged" as "two-edged" or as two words "two edged."

A consistent application of the assertions of that KJV-only web site would have made the 1611 edition "counterfeit" and the 1769 Oxford KJV edition "counterfeit."

Psalm 149:6 [two edged--1560 Geneva, 1602 Bishops] [see also Job 41:30]
    two-edged (1679, 1715, 1747, 1754, 1758, 1762, 1765, 1768, 1771, 1772, 1773, 1774, 1777, 1778, 1783, 1788 Oxford) [1637, 1638, 1683, 1743, 1747, 1756, 1760, 1762, 1763B, 1765, 1767, 1768, 1773, 1778, 1817, 1822, 1824, 2005 Cambridge, CSTE] {1672, 1711, 1747, 1750, 1760, 1763, 1764, 1767, 1772, 1795, 1860, 1877, 1879 London} (1722, 1756, 1764, 1766, 1769, 1789, 1791, 1793, 1810, 1820, 1842, 1858 Edinburgh) (1866 Glasgow) (1762 Dublin) (1791 Collins) (1802, 1813 Carey) (1816 Albany) (1818 Holbrook) (Clarke) (1819, 1829, 1843, 1954, 1957, 1963, 1971, 1988, 2008 ABS) (1826, 1828 Boston) (1827 Smith) (1832 PSE) (1846 Portland) (1854 Harding) (1924, 1958 Hertel) (1966 SC) (1968 Royal) (1973 REG) (GPB) (1975 Open) (1975 GID) (CSB) (RRB) (WMCRB) (1984, 1991 AMG) (FWP) (1987 Dugan) (EB) (DSB) (2006 PENG) (2008 Pilot) (1833 WEB) (1842 Bernard)

The cost of KJV editions printed in the late 1800's to early 1900's should not be that expensive since they were commonly available. Some people may overestimate the value of older Bibles from that period when they try to sell them. Even KJV editions from the early 1800's are not that rare. Perhaps a first edition of other translations printed in the late 1800's to early 1900's may be more rare and considered of higher value.

I treasure my very early 20th century ASV study edition NT picked up very cheaply at an antique/junk shop in a tiny farm town in eastern Co.

I bought my brand new ASV1901 for my first seminary class (1964 as I recall). On my "Bible Shelf" recently a grandson was looking thru and picked that cheap hardbound that said 1901 and asked if it was an antique.

    1960 edition. Antique. Oh, my.

Then again, I assumed he thinks his GRANDPA is an antique, too . . .

Yes--I always check the copywrite dates inside, and print dates.

Notes scribbled inside and dated often help date antique store items.

I also have a pre 1850 saddlebag edition Methodist circuit rider hymnal picked up for a dime at a garage sale.
