Do kids interact anymore?

    What a wonderful magical world we live in. The wife puts on QVC this morning & they are showing the toys for the Christmas in July......all Chinese garbage. When my son was little , I got him toys that enabled him to get out of the house & interact with other kids......sleds, basketball & footballs, electronic cars they could race, lionel trains. now its all things electronic, they could do by themselves....electronic garbage.

    One year, I think when he was about 5 YO, in November I started looking for a sled. I was amazed that I could not find one & I finally had to get something last minute from LL Bean.A simple sled!?!

    Do kids today interact with their piers anymore?

    They do interact through texting, internet role playing games, etc. They are the new norm.

    My 12 and 14 year olds have been playing "Virus" and "Manhunt" with the other neighborhood kids.

    Thats why I see more fat kids today with no developed athletic skills. Oh Boy.

    Yea when I looked for a regular FF (48 inch) that you lay on your belly & go down the hill, that they would be everywhere. In the back of my mind was the local Western Auto putting a dozen or so out along there wall, out in front & the guy would tie a rope in a daisy chain around them all so you could not steal one. The Western Auto owner would do that in November & if you were a good boy, mom would give you 12 Bucks & you would buy one. You can still get them, mostly on the internet for $78 Bucks. Amazing how times have changed.

    Now I have one of these FF (48 ") models packed away for grandkids in the garage (I will entertain offers in November) ....its right next to a case of incandescent bulbs :laugh:

    LOL Don, I'm almost afraid to ask what those involve! I daresay they are similar in nature to the "Assasin" game my boys were playing just as public school ended which included shooting their friends with Nerf darts in the most public setting possible. :laugh:

    To answer the OP, yes, kids are social creatures and will find ways to interact with each other. That's why the idea that "socialization" can't occur outside pschool is a myth.

    Granted my kids are all teenagers, but at least once a week they are involved in some event, paintball, "magick" tourneys (its a card game), or some other social event. Sometimes inside, sometimes outside, sorta depends on the weather and everyone's schedule. Right now it's up close to 100 degrees outside which sorta precludes paintball, though mine have had the dirtbikes out in the evening teaching whoever wants to learn how to ride before I sell the things.

    Kids who aren't socializing have parents who aren't willing to interupt their lives to host or supervise. That's a whole 'nother discussion.

    We homeschool, & my children have a greater social life than I ever had. Television & electronic entertainment have taken the place of parenting.
