I prefer the HCSB to NIV2011. An opinion of accuracy on an entire translation is is one not to be dogmatic about, IMO, being that there seem to be 'problems' with them all to some extent considering what I understand of the nature of translation.
Heres a link to the SBC resolution regarding NIV 2011. It is aparrent that they would prefer the HCSB to the NIV2011.

use NASV for study, also use ESV/NIV/HCSB prefer HCSB next best to study from...

Actually perfer old 1984 NIV to 2011 edition, maybe as "grew up" on it!

This could come down to preference. Personally, I'm thinking case by case here.

Agreed. Both have weaknesses. Both have strengths.

HCSB is more literal- that makes the case for me. I tend to use the ESV and HCSB most and the the NIrV with our less literate members.

You consider the HCSB more literal than the 2011 NIV.(By the way,do you own a 2011 NIV?). I agree that it is more literal. But how much more? I think it is a smidgen (a highly technical term).

I don't understand those who put a big qualitative difference between the 2011 NIV/TNIV and the HCSB. There is really not much wiggle room between the two translations.

David Bell has apaper with a whopper of a title: A Comparative Analysis of Formal Shifts in English Bible Translations with a view towards Defining and Describing Paradigms. (I'm already out of breath) He has an Overall Numerical Summary of various translations. These are just some of the numbers he assigns a few :
    NASB--55
    HCSB --70
    NIV --73
    NJB --88
    TEV --116

According to his research there is only a three point spread between the HCSB and NIV! In my much more amateur way I concluded long ago that there is very little of a gulf between these two versions. If folks insist that there is, I would say they have not really read and compared them with any diligence.

I don't own a copy of the 2011, but I am reading through it this year on Bible Gateway. I did the same with the HCSB and the ESV in the past. I am an amateur also, but my conclusion is different- LOL. I wouldn't hesitate to use the NIV2011- as a matter of fact I have quoted from it for sermons recently- but for studies I think the HCSB is better. That's just my take.

isn't it a case of which 'reads" better to someone? Read Both and use both, just seems like Niv smidge more :readable" but HCSB seems more like "literal" version...
