One of the things I miss being a pastor is being able to actually take the Lord's Supper without other things on my mind such as do we have enough cups and will the little boy on the 5th row spill the drink when his dad lets him hold it for him or cry when dad tries to take it away. :tongue3:

But today, I asked the student pastor to lead the Lord's Supper. I was able to really concentrate on what Jesus did. It was really nice. It reminded me that Jesus promised He would not partake again until he did it in the Father's Kingdom and then I'll be able to sit down with the one whom it is all about.

I was raised in a Christian church (unsaved) but one of the things that sticks in my mind was the weekly Lord's table time. The elders led the time, pastor never was involved that I recall, they always had a short devotional and it was a central part of the service. (Mom wouldn't let me put two dimes on either side of my ring to make a flying saucer during that time :) I had no idea what it was about but it always seemed like a special time for the folks.

When ministering as interim for about a year and doing the Lord's table I always felt most anyone could do a better job than I was doing. I asked the deacons to take care of it one Sunday and found I was right :)

If it was special to you repeats are allowed!

We observed the Lord's Table last week and I saw something I've yet to see...a young man came forward to be saved at the end of it!

His relative (a very young Christian) didn't really know how to witness to him. She did her best and witnessed to him, but as a new Christian, she couldn't answer a lot of stuff. But she BROUGHT him to Communion and as we we're passing out the bread, he said "I cannot take communion."

Then when we passed out the cup, his relative said "can he partake? He knows about Jesus, but I don't know if he's saved for sure." I told her that we needed to wait until the end of the service and speak with our Pastor.

At the end of the service, I brought the Pastor and the young man together and they talked. After sharing God's Word with him, the young man made a profession of faith and the three of us prayed.

So seeing someone saved at the end of a communion service was a first for me.

What I find hard about the Lords supper is in some churches it the same everything. They quoit Luke 22 and pass the cup and the bread. But he said “this do in remembrance of me.” There is more to remember about Jesus death than that it happen. We can remember what that did for us.
-By his death we are a new creation
-By his death we have access to the father
-By his death we are made one with Christ
-By his death we are adapted into the house hold of God
-By His death We are son of God
-By his death we are brother with Christ
-By his death we a joint heirs
-By his death we are saints of God.

We need to remember it more than hell insurance

First Lord's Supper I led, I was a 19 year old pastor of a little country church that just had a few souls in it. But I literally stayed up, pacing the floor all weekend in my Bible college dorm. I practiced what I would say. How I would fill the cups and elements borrowed from another church. At the end, we had too much grape juice. I didn't want to drink the extra juice for fear of consuming too much and violating 1 Cor 11, but I didn't want to throw it away...it was LORD'S SUPPER juice!!! :tongue3:
