So, make DC inconsequential for everyone except ..... me.
So, Perry hates Washington, except when Texas needs help.

Nice way for the left to show their ignorance.

Dear brother, all conservatives agree that government has it's place and it's primary duty is to protect the citizenry.

    But to what degree?

According to the founding fathers the detail of that protection under the rule of law is to be accompanied by the consent of the governed.

It is evident from the founding documents that the federal government was to be restrained by a checks and balance system.

The details of our system is always up for debate.

I would say then that Perry has an animosity and yes, even hatred, for a BIG and overly intrusive federal government.

But if Perry hates big govt, why is he demanding federal aid? Does that make him a hypocrite?

The only answer I can think of is that the Feds take too much income tax from Texans - they just want some of it back.

I don't know. But we all wear the hypocrite mask on occassion, no?

To be sure it would show Texas in a better light if they didn't need or ask for it.

But then again Texas is one of the states of the United States of America.

Rick Perry is a politician. Faced with these decisions politicians do what is necessary to win the next election. This applies to both parties, it's political self-preservation.

Now, I've lived in Texas for over 50 years, and I've seen several governors. Perry is not that popular, at least not until this presidential bid. But, he hasn't been a bad governor, he's been more of a do nothing governor. And, he is in a republican state and has never really faced any real democratic opposition. Like in the past election. Perry won against Bill White, who had been our mayor here in Houston. Although I lean democratic, I am glad White lost to Perry!

Robert, maybe a "do nothing" governor is all that a conservative governor of a conservative state needs to do to have good things happen or continue on.

Now to be sure there will be a lot of things for him to "un-do" when he takes over the oval office chair.

I'm glad FEMA has stayed out of Montana this fire season. Those guys are jerks.

Perry would have been neglecting the duties of his office if he had not asked for some of the money back that Texas sends the federal goverment to help fund disaster relief.

Crabby's premise is as ridiculous as it always is.

My question is why would he go to an East-Coast, left-wing, liberal rag like the Boston Globe to find out what Texans want ?

Ever been to Marblehead ? You get pulled over & hassled if you aren't driving a Mercedez.

I'm not surprised this elitist hates Texas.

In addition to that, the author lied repeatedly about what took place.

The truth wouldn't wear well in that particular liberal bastion of the wealthy.

I find it highly amusing how the apologists here can overlook any fault of someone they believe is 'conservative.' It reminds me of the Maoist apologists here who defended Mao regardless of what he did. Thanks for the good laughs.
