The paragraphs quoted are the primary reason I do not watch political debates, regardless of the party. Nothing of substance is said by the candidates and moderators do not call them down for avoiding questions. I find this very frustrating. Also while cute one-liners may be cute and occasionally funny they are just that, cute and funny. But they do nothing to tell me what that candidate will really do to help the country. I also find that very frustrating, especially when the are replayed time after time on TV and in other news media outlets. All candidates seem to believe that substantive answers loose votes. I find that a sad commentary on both the candidates and the American voter. :tear:

And, all the while Crabby ignores the fact that the Great Obama has placed us under more debt than we could ever hope to pay. The answer is not more taxes on anyone or anything. The answer is less taxes, far less spending, less regulation, less government,no union pandering, and no tax and spend democrats or republicans for that matter. Make the tax code friendly instead of a nightmare-Eliminate the Earned Income Credit-Limit Welfare-Quit hindering the oil companies-Quit trying to regulate the coal industry out of existence-Stop using obscure spotted owls, woodpeckers, various species of fish, etc., to keep land owners and legitimate businesses from expanding....

[Note from moderator: we have had a complaint that you are repeating the same political views. Since I have not been watching I don't see anything wrong with this post by itself. If you are repeating over and over a political view, then feel free to do it in different threads where new people may be but don't continue to repeat the same thing over and over in the same thread just to make your point. If you have not been doing this, please accept my appologies. I will attempt to watch these threads closer.]

Please stay on topic. Your reply is simply your boiler plate of your opinion. The OP is not about taxes or the environment. It is about candidates saying nothing substantive in debates. Can you please address the topic? If you want to debate your favorite rant please start a new thread.

I gave substantive answers. I can't help it if your bleeding heart is too blind to see the truth.

You gave an opinion, but it was totally off the topic of the OP.

If I were King....oops that's Wizard of Oz....if I were President (I like the sound of that) I'd do the following, first thing....
    1. ELIMINATE campaign spending. Each candidate may spend $10,000 for a campaign, no more. Instead all funds would go to the treasury where it would be doled out to a legitimate candidate.

    2. ELIMINATE party platforms. I don't want to know what the RNC, DNC, or Tea Party says, I want to know what a candidate thinks and will truly do...not pipe dreams.

    3. If a US company wants to outsource or move their manufacturing out of the US...bon voyage. But when you bring your goods and services back to the US to sell you will pay high tariff's for the privilege.

    4. ELIMINATE ALL pork barrel spending. No more bridges to nowhere, no more studying the obscure mating habits of a mosquito, no more funds to save an owl, fish or anything else.

    5. ELIMINATE ALL lobbyist and lobbying. Laws will be made that benefit the actual voting citizenry instead of the insurance, medical, tobacco, et al industries.

    6. Stop using foreign oil. Use what we have in this country.

    7. Stop giving aid to our enemies, stop rescuing every nation that has a disaster. We can't feed and home our own homeless, indigent, sick, ....why feed the world when we're not feeding our own citizens.

    8. Say goodbye to all illegal immigrants. We can tell a farmer what pasture a cow is in, but we can't find millions of illegal immigrants? Find them, round them up, send them home and if they want to come back they can do it legally. No more medical care, SS, anything else for illegal immigrants.

    9. Begin again to support the nation of Israel. Stop trying to make Israel give up the land God gave to Abraham, stop trying to make them be at peace. There won't be peace in the Middle East until God brings peace.

I've got a lot more....but this gives a place to start. It is time to return to the foundations of this nation, turn our hearts and minds back to God and govern in a manner that is pleasing to God.

Matt, your link proves one thing. The current President talks a lot but all he is doing is blowing hot air. It will be so good to see him gone in the next election. He's worse than Jimmy "give away the canal" Carter ever thought about being.

Thanks for the reply. Do you fond it frustrating that candidates do not give substantive answers in debates or on the campaign trail?

Obviously I do or I wouldn't be considering a run for the White House myself!! LOL Yes, I find it frustrating and because of it I refuse to watch them stand there and tell me how terrible their opponent is. That's MY decision to make by doing my own research. I'd rather know what YOU'RE going to do once you become president, not what your party tells you, not what you think I want to hear, but what you'll REALLY do...what you really care about...what your passion is. That's why it's time for a woman to be president...she'll tell you what she thinks and won't hold back.

Glory Be and Hallelujah, a rational voice speaks on the board. You have my vote!

Would that more people felt as you do and be as rational and clam in their replies. Thanks and ... did I say THANKS ... yes I did and "thanks" again.

I don't watch the initial debates. They are not about giving real answers. Now I do remember as a teenage listening the Reagan and I liked what I heard. My parents were very impressed too. He seemed to give real answers. Now all we have is Obamic hot air that comes from both sides of the political aisle.

Yes, I find it extremely frustrating, almost to the point of destroying any interest in watching debates. Michelle Bachmann is the worst offender. She will go right into campaign catch-phrase mode, totally ignoring what was asked. I will say that Herman Cain answers questions. He usually repeats the question asked of him and then actually answers it! Jon Huntsman is pretty good at answering a question. Gingrich will typically veer off onto another subject entirely.

As for the article you posted, let's take a look at a couple of things, shall we?

[When] asked how exactly they would achieve their twin goals of balancing the federal budget and spurring job growth, they had no actual answer. Instead, they seemed to think the tooth fairy would leave $1 trillion under their West Wing pillow.

I would like to know Obama's plan for balancing the federal budget. Oh wait, he has NEVER said that was a worthy goal. Spurring job growth? Obama wants to cut the social security tax rates and spend billions on infrastructure like high speed rail, and on modernizing schools. Where will he get the money? Answer: The Tooth Fairy.

Newt Gingrich ludicrously stated that there is enough waste, fraud and abuse to balance the budget without actually cutting any of the funding that finds its way to legitimate beneficiaries.

OK, this was disappointing but this is also the standard Democrat response to cutting anything. Cutting waste was the main "funding" component of Hillary's health care proposals (yes, plural--1993 and 2008). The difference is that Gingrich would actually go look for waste and fraud, Democrats won't. Remember Obama's pledge early in his term to go through the federal budget line by line and eliminate waste and duplicate programs? How's that working out for us?

This is sexist. Also, the only woman in the race is also the worst person at answering questions. She basically repeats campaign speech jargon rather than thoughtfully answering the questions.

Huntsman has no chance and I trust him less that Obama. Something about that guy does not come across as genuine.

Bachman is straight forward and very direct.

Perry is problematic with his wanting to force girls to take the HPV shot and his border issues.

    Romney is to moderate

Any of them but Huntsman is better than Obama in the long run.

Interesting assessment, but off topic. Are you frustrated by the lack of substantive answers in debates and on the campaign trail?

Where do you see her being direct? She does not answer questions with a direct answer. I'm from Minnesota and have watched her for years. I agree with her policy positions most of the time, but she is a lousy communicator. She basically rehashes campaign slogans.

Was Ron Paul in this debate? I didn't see it. He's usually pretty specific and direct.

What's frustrating is that candidates CANNOT be specific or direct because the media would take their words out of context and demonize them.

Back in the 90's Newt Gingrich's Contract for America was very specific and direct, but the liberal media had a hayday with it.

Any administration that thinks that they can effectively manage the next 5 years without significant, across the board tax increases and substantial cuts to government programs is lying to the American people (or just not in touch with reality) and doesn't deserve an opportunity to hold the highest executive office in the land.
