Do we need to grant them "allownace" for being seniors, and sometimes misspeaking their wording?

Seen that Billy has been getting "softer" in his 90's, as seen him on paul crouch network and giving 'approval" on his ministry and network programming, even though its pretty much word of faith/prosperity herecy central...

Also seen him on larry King not really supporting jesus as ONLY way to god, kind of "fudging" on that...

With Pat and Billy saying some 'weird" stuff in their later years...

Can't we excercise some "grace" towards them and see it as just " growing older" ,and praising them for the good things done for the Lord while younger?

Error has to be called out regardless of age.

That is true, but just was asking if we could 'tone it down" while pointing out their mistakes?

As seem to point out error, but also talk personal on them?

Treat them as you would want others to treat you.

Some would protect others who walk disorderly, cause dissenion and the like against those who rebuke due to their age as an excuse. This is a wrong position.

Those who are aged often get a pass, and empathy, from others, and still teach false doctrine.

We are not to sit passively and allow them to do so unchecked.

agree with you on that, but it does seem at times to get 'personal" as we almost forget that those like Billy have done great service unto the Lord, and are now "loosing it" through the aging process that we all will go throuhg , if live long enough!

Age is not an excuse. Some experience mental shortcomings with age, but not all. My memory is short and fails me often, but not my theology.

On Billy Graham, I don't see him as changing, but rather expanded on what he always taught, a form of universalism beyond the basics of the gospel. He always sent people back to their liberal churches, unless there were good, sound counsellors who directed people correctly.

I have a high regard for Billy Graham personally, and it has nothing to do with age. Even in here I tend to just state my case, briefly, and get on with it. I ignore some comments and try not to get into discussion with certain people. In my younger years, I would have spoken out. Then, I am only 84 and have suffered 4 strokes which greatly affected my short-term memory.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Just seems that Billy has though had his theology regarding the Gospel "liberal" out as he got older, as he would have NEVER gone towards other than jesus saving us, or that Charasmatic groupd were teaching sound doctrines!

I don't see excuses happening for either man, certainly not for Robertson.

As aforementioned, error should be pointed out regardless of age.

Pat Robertson and Billy graham are not in the same league. Mr. Robertson has always as far as I can remember been off base. Billy Graham has went that way in his latter years. Another who I have respected in his ministry in the past is Charles Stanley as he has also strayed.
I think that there needs to be those who tell us it is time to step down and be quiet in love if they see a brother failing our Lord because of age. If they will not listen then the same discipline should be used with them as with any one else.

In what way has Charles Stanley strayed? I listen to him every week and read his books. I have seen nothing that he has strayed from.

Having served with Dr. Stanley I will refute this statement and say it is a baseless charge.

So who do you think is qualified to approach men of God who have faithfully served the church and say "well __________ it's time for you to go." Sort of an ecclesiological euthanasia, maybe we have a "retirement panel" that will begin to cull the elders among us. And how exactly do you propose to "discipline" them? A thousand lashes with a wet noodle? Dirty looks? Op-Ed pieces in Christianity Today? Really?

Several years ago I was listening to him in a message and he said that repentance was not necessary to be saved. At first I thought that I had not heard him correctly, but he repeated it several times.
I tried to contact him about this but got no reply so I finally got hold of deacon or elder, I am not sure any more which, and he told me that the message would be edited and Dr. Stanley was going through some difficult times.

As I recall, even Barry Goldwater became a liberal in his old age. Of course that may have been due to his young wife.

Do you have any proof of this, or are you going to make serious allegations like this publicly without proof?

I've always enjoyed listening to Charles Stanley and I have a few of his books as well, but reading his books I also discovered he believes in a second work of grace [he believes he was saved and then received the Holy Spirit later] This doesn't make him a bad man [necessarily], but lets remember that Charles Wesley [or maybe John I can't remember which :)] also believed the same and this is the doctrine which spawned the charismatic movement.

I have listened to Dr. Stanley for years and read several books by him. I don't recall him ever saying such a thing. I do recall him teaching on the book of Acts in which some believers received the Holy Spirit at a later time than they were saved.

All I've read so far is gossip with no proof of him straying from the faith.

Stanley wouldn't be allowed on this board as he's a millenial exclusionist.
