    The Lord Jesus said in John 14:27;
    Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid

    Yet in the church there seems to be very little peace in the lives of those who profess Christ. Why do you believe that so many Christians do not have this peace that the Lord speaks of?

    In Phl. 4:7 it reads;
    And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

    The peace that the Lord is offering is not limited to just being saved although one must be saved to have it. So why do you think that His peace is missing ion the lives of so many who claim to be saved?

    Well Brother, the peace that He gives is given to the soul at the point of salvation. The flesh hasn't been delivered from sin yet. There is a warfare that goes on betwixt the two. My soul is at peace with God via the shed blood of Jesus, but my flesh still struggles against it. We struggle in the flesh, but the peace He gives us, causes us to sleep peacefully at night, knowing that if won't wake up in the morning, we will be with Him.

    I really think it has to do with our theology. When we see God as a Santa and that He has our prosperity in mind and that we think our lives should be great, we have issues when strife comes along.

    But when we have a true understanding of God, we can have peace even through tough times. When my daughter was so ill, we were prepared to lose her and we had peace knowing that nothing was happening outside of God's hand and since we trust Him, we trusted Him with her. We had a peace that absolutely passed all understanding - so much so that the doctors asked a friend of ours who is a nurse why we had such peace in the face of her diagnosis. She told us it was an opportunity for her to explain about our faith in Christ and how that was helping us through the tough time.

    So, when we have a right view of God, even in turmoil, we have peace.

    If you look at the passages I gave carefully you will see He is speaking of a different peace then just believing if we die we will go to heaven. By the way very few who claim to be Christians have the peace you speak of in fact very few who claim they have it actually have it. There is a real peace even in this life for those who seek Him and obey. That peace is in the mist of the confusion and conflict that the world and life may bring.

    Thanks! I just read a GREAT book on this very idea. It's called "When Life and Beliefs Collide" by Carolyn Custis James. DEFINITELY a book worth reading.
