Choosing Death Over Life! The Argument, Dr. Oz Lost!!!

I usually don't watch the Dr. Oz Show, but the other day the woman who wants to be the first female to weigh more than 1,800 pounds (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yoEepkeF9U and http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-fattest-woman-52st-mother-2-supersizing.html) was on the show, and he spent 25% of the show trying to convince her to lose weight (not gain more weight) to avoid a rendezvous with an early, preventable death. :tear:

What I found so fascinating about the show was how adamant this woman was when it came to "refusing" to admit that her weight would eventually kill her.

There was an eerie similarity between her denial of the facts that Dr. Oz presented, versus her goal to be the heaviest woman, ever; and our attempts to persuade non-believers to come to Jesus.

In a sad way, just like the people we witness to, and who go on to reject the Spcriptural truth about sin and the need to be saved by His Grace, this woman refused every piece of physical evidence the television icon (Dr. Oz) put before her. He shared with her everything from triglycerides that were near 600, to the truth about what her physician and two children were honestly saying about her obesity. Of course, she claimed to hear a different slant when it came to what the people closest to her were really saying! Not a bit surprising! :tear:

No matter what was presented, by way of truth and the need to lose weight or die, she smiled defiantly and chose to move closer to her set goal of 1,800 pounds and more than likely, an early death. :sleeping_2:

The futility of the egocentric doctor was evident, as he seemed amazed that she refused to believe the medical facts put before her.

His failed attempt to convince her to lose weight and live a longer life was so similar to our efforts to share Christ with a lost civilization, that I was moved to share this story with you. It always bothers me when people refuse to see that they are under the curse of Adam (sin), but still choose death over eternal life?

I guess if the good Dr. Oz can't win them over (with solid, yet scary medical facts/evidence), then we shouldn't feel like failures when some people choose to reject the facts and truth about our Jesus. After all, if Dr. Oz couldn't convince this woman to lose weight, even for the sake of her two children, then the sad reality is exactly what it is! We just can't win them all because there will be t who would rather believe they are on the right road, and ignore the opportunity to get on the narrow path!

I Don't Disagree, I Just....

....Get a feeling of being defeated by the father of lies when people reject the Jesus I love so much. I feel a great sense of loss for that person's soul, and while I may feel like I've been obedient, and that is a great point, Amy. I still have a sense of despair for another person who has chosen death over eternal life. :wavey:

In Ezekiel 33:11 we read that God clearly takes,"no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?'"

I mourn a little for them and move on, and I'm sure the Father has similar feelings when He sees his lost souls reject the only way back. Just as we know the Angels in heaven "rejoice" when a soul is won to Christ, we must not forget that there is a certain sense of loss, no matter how momentary it is, it is still a senseless loss, because salvation is for everyone (who receives) and free! This is noted in Luke 15:7 - "I say to you that, likewise, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance."

I know that what Dr. Oz did and what we do are on opposite ends of the spectrum life over death. One is physical death, the other, eternal death!

I just found it an interesting similarity, that in the physical realm of things, a well respected medical man (Oz) can offer pure medical facts and still be rejected. There are eerie similarities: One offers a second chance at physical well being (and is rejected), the other (Christians) offers eternal life, and can be rejected. It seems ironic that be it in the physical realm, or spiritual realm. People are going to reject the truths, facts, and what is best for them and choose death over life.

There is a certain amount of emotion tied to a soul who receives the truth, or rejects it, as described in Romans 12:15 - "Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep."

So yes, I feel obedient that I followed His Word and shared, but only after a moment, or two of weeping for their possible eternal loss. :tear:
