Much like when Dubya said it would be easier if we were a dictatorship, as long as he was the dictator. Much ado about nothing.

Joking or not and regardless of party, one must admit it does stir up a segment of the citizenry when elected executives say things like this.

Yup, I agree. Both were jokes based in sarcasm. Why would a Democratic governor want congressional elections suspended when Republicans control the House?

It is kind of like a pastor saying 'The ministry would be a great job if it weren't for the people.'

Kind of like Governor Perry talking about seceding from the Union.

This is her qoute as stated in the Fox News article:

"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover," Gov. Bev Perdue, a Democrat, said, according to a report by the Raleigh News & Observer. "You want people who don't worry about the next election."

It is clear what her point was in this statement. No reason for folks to blow it out of proportion. It does make for good strawman fodder for the mudslinging types, though.

I'm listening to Rush now, he opened up with this, his spin is she was not kidding, and after listening to the audio I agree, she sounds serious as a heart attack, no chuckles or laughter.

I think the dems are scared of the upcoming elections.

I found the sound-bite. It doesn't come off as a joke. There is no laughter. I would be surprised to see her re-elected.

It's easy to tell the author is a diehard liberal out to expand the power of government and disenfranchise the voter.

She wasn't joking. This is the way they think. Liberals controlled the government for 40 years and made a mess of it. They clearly don't like it that the voters are fighting back. So, they want to shut them out of the process.

I ask again - if she is serious why would a Democrat want elections suspended when the opposing party is in power?

Just curious - what 40 years do you consider the liberals controlling Congress. I would say 75 years.

If you mean nationally, the Dems control the presidency and the Senate. Maybe she is concerned that the Dems might lose one or the other. If you mean in NC, she may be concerned that Dems would lose even more power when the elections are held.

    Here is the quote -

"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that," Perdue said. "You want people who don't worry about the next election."

She sounds totally serious to me.

She is talking about election for Congress, where the GOP control the House. Why would she seriously want that as the status quo.

Congress = the House and Senate. She could be anticipating more Dem seats being lost in both bodies. At any rate I don't think she was kidding.
