This is absolutely ridiculous. What if you walked into a jiffy lube or whatever and would only be given the sale price for reciting a sacred Muslim text.

This is not an evangelism tool or whatever.

Lighten up jaigner, you seem uptight. Best "news" I've heard all day.

Then I wouldn't go to that establishment. I would go to the establishment in the OP though. Seems like he found an effective advertising tool. Good for him.

    Beautiful! What a wonderful idea.

And who cares if someone else gave a discount for reciting a false text? Just don't learn it and don't get the discount. Bashing it as silly as bashing witnessing because what if someone of a different faith started witnessing too? OH MY!

There is a local restaurant here that gives you a discount on Sunday if
you bring that particular Sunday's church bulletin when you go there to eat.

    I think it's a great idea!

Wonder if this station would make the "Grinch List" from FBC Dallas?

Not so much. While reciting a verse might pass muster, courts have repeatedly held bulletin discounts are a violation of the civil rights act by a place of public accommodation, as discrimination based on religion. Your restaurant is exposing itself to a lawsuit under federal law.

Good grief. No wonder nobody wants to own their own business anymore. Too many rules, regulations, and requirements that shouldn't be anybody's decision but that of the owner.

I know everyone goes nuts when someone says we don't live in a free country, but we don't. We live in a freer country than many others. I expect that after a while we'll be freer than half of other countries. Then we'll be freer than some. Then we'll be freer than a couple.

Yeah yeah I know, I should pack my bags and move to another country cuz I just don't appreciate what we have, the mantra of everyone who can't admit we're losing more ground every day when it comes to freedom. No, I'm not moving. Yes, I appreciate the freedoms we do still have. Yes, I miss the ones we lost and am saddened by the death throes of the ones we are losing and just plain scared of what it'll be like when my kids are my age.

It's funny. Give a guy a break on tuition, or fast track him to a job promotion, or perhaps a cheap home loan, based on his race and people fawn. Encourage someone memorize a bible verse and the cries of "our civil liberties" start.

Okay, so if the owner wants to charge a black person double, or not serve them at all?Religion, race, gender are some of the criteria in the law. Without laws against discrimination, we would have a society ruled by the tyranny of the majority. I cannot refuse to sell my home to anyone based on these same criteria. I would not want to return to the days of Whites Only establishments, or not being allowed to bu a home if I happen to be the "wrong" religion or color.

Then I would memorize the text, and get my discount. Probably thank them, on my way out.

Nope, wouldn't want a society rules by the tyranny of the majority.
Just by the majority instead of the tyranny of the minority like it seems to be over the last 8 years.

If I own my home, I should have every right to say I won't rent out that home to someone for whatever reason I chose. I don't care if it's as simple as "I didn't like the shoes she was wearing." It's MY home.

What's all the crud about returning to "whites only" stuff? Whites are discriminated against in this country. Minorities are handed out scholarships and business loans and all kinds of stuff based only on race.
I'd actually like to be in a place we've never been...where all people are considered equal humans and people are free to live as they wish without fear as long as they do not disturb the peace and safety of others.

And offering a discount to someone who memorizes a sacred text that is dear to you when they are in your place of business in no way disturbs the peace and safety of others unless they ignorantly decide to let it because they can't handle the concept of freedom.

I'm not so sure that reciting a verse would pass muster. If you require a religious text from Religion A, people from other faiths would likely be less familiar with Religion A's texts and it would have a disparate impact. Disparate impact is one way discrimination can be proven.

Do you have a link to said court case?
If that is the case, than any discounts given to women only, seniors, ect should likewise be illegal.

I will mention this: The Syracuse Chiefs of the International Baseball League used to have "Church Bulletin Night" which would allow a person in free, every Monday (as that night was the least attended). Well someone complained that he didn't go to church. Well, the GM told him that he would personally allow him to come in without a church bulletin. Still wasn't good enough for the atheist. Now, the Chiefs have "The night formerly known as church bulletin night". Gina said it best " the tyranny of the minority " I also agree with her that I should be able to do business with anybody I choose to do so.

PS, when people call about my defensive driving class and ask how much it is, I tell them it is $30. Then if they ask what the senior price is, I will respond $35!

    Curtis,

Somewhere in the Bible, giving up ice cream must be condemned as carnal or a deadly sin.

If the owner wants to charge a black person double...let him. Not serve Muslims? Let him. Private business shouldn't be forced to do business with anyone else. You liberals are all for people's rights....until they own a business.
