TV viewing

We do not get any outside channels. All that can be watched are what we have, which are mostly educational videos. No one is allowed to watch television without asking for permission, but my kids rarely ask.

Don't have any kids at home anymore but the best show on TV is Wretched with Todd Friel.

have 2 boys, 11 and 13, both have to get homework done first, than are allowed to watch 1 hour before going to bed...

We are on ATT Uverse, and have parental controls activated, so the highest rated shows they can actually view are PG 13 and lower!

 

Have a 14 year old and an 11 year old boy.

TV's are not permitted in their bedrooms. The 14 year old asked for one for his birthday and got a resounding no. Not only no TV in your bedroom, but no TV in your bedroom, ever. And that goes for your brother as well!

No hourly limit per se. I'd say they watch less than an hour of TV per day. ESPN Sportscenter in the morning while they are getting ready for school. They might watch the Disney channel or SpongeBob occasionally. Also sporting events. They watch Star Wars: Clone Wars and Doctor Who otherwise they are not big TV watchers, so no need for a time limit (PlayStation 3 is another story.)

MTV and VH1 are blocked. Any parent that doesn't block MTV and VH1 are idiots. Don't bother arguing with me if you allow your children to watch these channels because I won't respond to an idiot. Comedy Channel is not electronically blocked but I would never allow them to watch it. I suppose I should add it to the list.

 

My wife watches all the CSI shows and Justice Files.
She is basically learning how to kill me off and hide the body.

 

I see no distinction. They would have the same rules for them as I do for myself. If it is garbage it is garbage. Age does not mean I should be watching garbage. As for how many hours no more then 10 hours a week with 5 of those hours set aside for the news.

 

We have one TV set and it is in the living room. We get no channels and do not have cable. Once a week, on Sunday evenings after church, we hook up the Wii and watch a netflix movie. Occasionally we'll watch a library movie. I'd say it adds up to maybe 3 hours a week. We only watch rated G or PG, as do our children.

We did go to the movies to see Courageous with our girls, even though it was PG-13. We knew we could trust the makers of it not to include anything our family wouldn't want to see.

I have never understood the idea that it's okay for adults to watch trash, but not kids. If I don't want my kids to view it, why on earth would I want to? I don't need to put that junk in my mind any more than the kids do.

 

Pretty much keep TV on business channels or something historical. Wife is sick of programs on WWII. :smilewinkgrin:

 

We have only one tv - I believe in keeping the family in one place!

I have two children (7 and 5) and they are allowed to watch an hour a day after homework (Nick/Disney Junior and some cartoon network stuff). On fridays there is usually a movie to watch. On saturdays they easily watch 3 hours in the morning as they wake up early. The probably watch an hour or two on a sunday - depending on the disney movie. They are very clear if they aren't allowed to watch.

Just because the tv is on doesn't mean they are glued to the tv.. On saturdays they are usually playing with the tv on in the background. I love watching along with them.. my favourites are spongebob and ben10!!!

I grew up watching 3 hours a day and about 6 on the weekends... I have turned out a well adjusted enough devoted christian. My parents just lacked discipline and the tv was their babysitter for me!

No rules for mum and dad - but we record what we want to watch and watch it when they are in bed. I like to think that mum and dad are mature enough to watch with discernment than impose some rule on myself. Grown adults not allowing themselves to watch beyond PG-13 - that is plain weird and sounds so self-righteous.. but if it makes you feel holier or happier.. be my guest.. I won't judge you for it.
