One lone Democratic governor making a tongue in cheek comment is far from 'Democrats Put Fascism on the Table.'

Why would a Democrat really want to suspend Congressional elections when the Republicans control the purse strings?

    Hi C4K

I think because of the precedent.

If one can suspend ANY election (by executive order or whatever) ALL elections then become candidates for suspension incuding the presidential.

Then we can have a coronation instead of an inauguration.

Then the king can appoint czaars (oops, I mean dukes and duchesses).

This is nothing more or less than President Bush's comment that things would be a 'heckuva' lot easier if the US were a dictatorship - if he were the dictator.

C4K you are twisting the facts. While I am no great fan of George Bush what is right is right and wrong is wrong and you are doing wrong by twisting the truth. George bush was NEVER suggesting that what he said was the way to go. He was making an off the cuff statement in humor and then makes it clear he totally supports our system.
On the other hand this Gov, was not making an off the cuff statement. She was serious as it can be clearly heard in her statements.

I totally disagree because it makes no sense at all that she would want to suspend an election when the 'other guys' control the money. That would make her an idiot, not a fascist.

We have already hashed all this through in a thread on the exact same last week.

No matter what, one Democratic governor saying this is hardly 'Democrats Put Fascism on the table' no matter what.

Even if she did mean it, which I sincerely question, one idiot is hardly declaring policy for the whole Democratic Party.

I don't know if she is an idiot or not but that statement does not look like a joke. It looks like she threw and idea out there to test it and see if it could get some traction.

I can't believe this old chestnut is getting circulated again. Suspending elections is a staple of the conspiracy crowd. I have heard about the suspension of elections since at least Bush Sr.

I think it's laughable to assume a body of politicians would have the strength of character to behave themselves without the threat of losing their jobs in the next election. They seem to have a hard enough time as it is.
