I love writing but most of my works are non-fiction. When I write fiction, I write short stories that I use for kids storytelling. The fiction authors in my family are my daughters, their imaginations run rampant. The older two are in an advanced writing course and they produce fairly well written material for their age.

Currently, I am writing a book on worship that I hope to publish by the end of the year.

Yeah, I miss doing it for decent pay. Stuff written for otherwise or not published went on my blog...gotta write something new sometime soon! Here's the link - a few posts down is one titled "my favorites" and has my favorite ten or eleven posts linked or able to be copied and pasted: http://www.literaryworks.blogspot.com

So what do YOU write and where is it?

What I LIKE to write is poetry, essays and flash fiction.
What I got paid for a while back was writing for a newspaper and an advertising place.

I still occasionally write tiny stuff for pay for publication online, an online writing studio that has different places come to them for stuff and they outsource it to us.

Kinda stinks to not have writing time anymore. It's really just who I am and it feels like I'm fading, fading, fading...

Oh yeah...puns. Absolutely the highest art form on the planet! Knew a woman once who berated her poor husband like an animal for using them and FORBID him to use them in company. Seriously? You can't take puns from an Aussie. That's cruel. Seemed the only author she liked was Shakespeare but she only watched the movies. Which inspired me to want to write a poem about her. "The Chupacabra of Language." Sucked the life blood out of any fun part of the written or spoken word for everyone around. When I have time, I shall write that poem in her honor. All in pun. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa

    1. I keep a journal.
    2. Working on my memoirs. As someone once said, "Anyone who survives childhood will never run out of things to write about."
    3. My wife and I keep an online travel blog. We have three to four hundred entries and over 2000 photographs on the blog.
    4. We kept a journal of our first month long stay in China. This was in 1989 at the time the demonstrations began that led to the tragic Tiananmen Massacre. We probably have about 3 to 4 hundred pages on that trip.
    6. In 1995 I spent six months in China and kept a journal. When I had four pages filled, single space, I mailed it home, numbering each envelope. All arrived safely. I believe there was 122 letters or 488 pages.
    5. We kept a journal, sent to friends and family, amost daily of our 9 months in China. I'd say we have about 700 pages on that trip.

IMHO everyone shold keep at least one journal and write their memoirs for future generations in their family.

We were given a challenge at church last Sunday by a visiting pastor ... write our church history, but done make it boring as almost all church histories are found to be.

1.Have members and former members write about, "What drew me to this church."

Journalists are the best book authors.

I used to write poetry. I have a whole bunch of old poetry on an anime forum I used to be on, but that section is now visible only to signed-in members. I haven't been on there in a few years. I am trying to write some comedy and a book on race and society, but these are very slow for me as I have other interests. I recently did some short story writing for supernatural stories. (I am told that these are sci-fi, though existential horror or ghosts* is more of what I was trying to write.) I have written a couple of parody songs, but not a whole lot.

*What can I say? I discovered a music genre that was a hillbilly take on horror and found the 1992 Dracula inspiring. In fact, I might even say Dracula is the sweet horror of my heart's content, the transcendent darkness that pierces the night's flickering light, the subtlety of darkness that haunts the hours of shadows and scoffs in brightness of day. In this [or my tax class] I have found my life, or lost it... I have found the satisfaction of the seduction of hope-not to have hope and fall into its trappings, but to seduce that hope, absorb it, embrace a new hope within it, stripping it bear of the from the ruins of mortal life.

Sounds interesting Anastasia! One of my daughters loves that stuff and tries to get me interesting. I'm more fluffy...enjoy anything comedy, light-hearted, or spiritual, mostly because I am easily swayed to getting sad over things so shy away from the stuff that makes me worry ever since having kids. Until of late, the scariest thing I willingly took in was Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! I do like comedic dark stuff. ALL of the kids and my husband did peak my interest somewhat in sci-fi and I will watch Dr. Who now and do like it. (and I got talked into Ghost Whisperer and then got stuck on it for a while)
But reading? Not much horror since I've had kids. They'll do that to you! Prior to that I did get into horror books and Stephen King, never was much of one for romance or anything. Well, I did the obligatory thing as a teen and read Danielle Steele, but pretty lame. LOL
Mysteries have always been pretty cool, but I don't really look at them as horror and just really don't have time for pleasure reading like I did when I was in my 20's. As a kid, I was a sucker for the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew and all that jazz. I do love a lot of what my kids have read lately. The Sisters Grimm series is hilarious and fun and so was the Lemony Snicket series. Very entertaining and I love the warnings at the beginning of the Lemony books.

I used to read a little Nancy Drew. She was good. I hope that one day there are movies to help bring her back. I def. want to read my Lemony Snicket one of these days, but I have never heard of the Sisters Grimm.

An Ann Lamott quote on writing to writers:
Her book, Bird By Bird, is an excellent book on writing.

ROFL. That made my day. I'd never heard that before!

Writing is one thing. Getting anything published is another, which can make it discouraging. And THEN there is the marketing. I would guess that most writers want to be writers not salesmen[I'd much prefer taking fotos!]. But hang in there, Anastasia.

I've written three books and some articles. See my website
    mikesnow.org linked below.

These day, I mostly write my name! LOL However, I have written an unpublished novel and have kept a journal for so long I barely remember beginning it. If I can ever find time to put it together I have the beginnings of a second book, non-fiction this time.

I love to write, though I don't take the time. I like to retell stories or tell stories but not the non fiction type.
