Based upon observations I have made recently, I am curious about something. If you identify yourself as a Reformed Baptist, do you have a beard? If so why? Is there some scriptural support?

The only thing I have come across is this article. I've honestly not read the whole thing, and don't know if this guy is wacky or not. (The format is not very reader friendly). However, he does make the following points about beards. http://www.pbcofdecaturalabama.org/JHPowell/GodlyBeards.html

Disclaimer - I ask this question a bit tounge in cheek, but I think it is viable based upon observations. Please don't label me a legalist, I realize God doesn't love us anymore or any less based upon our facial hair. Thanks.

Jonathan Edwards, perhaps one of the greatest members of the Reformed Hall of Fame didn't have a beard. And, a soon to be inducted member, John Piper, doesn't have one either.

Not reformed and I was predestined to NOT have a beard. Though I have had one in the past.

So if one has a five o'clock shadow, does that expose them as lukewarm?

    Two thoughts:

    1. I didn't choose this beard, this beard chose me.

    2. I don't always have a beard...but when I do, it's reformed

Okay, I'm glad this thread has taken a lighthearted tone. I hoped it would. So far with 10 total votes cast it appears that 3 out of 4 Reformed Baptist have a beard (75%). This assumes that Annsi didn't vote for her husband. While only 50% of Non-Reformed Baptist have a beard. Obviously this is a small sample so far. And I'm sure when Jim1999 and Iconoclast post it will bump it up some more. What is it they say "Statistics prove you can make statistics say anything you want them to" or something to that effect. Anyways all I know is that as I have slowly begun to embrace the DOG over the past year I have cared less and less about shaving.

I believe if God had meant men to have beards He would have put hair on our faces. [IMG]

My vote COULD have been for hubby. :D

Hmm - hubby USED to have a beard but he shaved it off when he was much younger. He'd grow it again if his beard wasn't all grey, I'd guess! ;)

Don't see any Reformed Red, or Calvinist charcoal. But plenty of other colors he could choose from. :tongue3:

    Exactly right...:applause:

At this stage of my life...I have to take hair wherever it wants to grow...mostly seems to want to grow on my face....while my fair grows fast,it has seemed to spread out quite a bit on top...good thing each hair is numbered by God's sovereign determination:applause::applause:
God allows me to save money on shampoo!
I am glad that Reformed Baptist woman do not wear beards, or have hairy legs....good choice! They choose not to, because of their nature....

I'm thinking of some of the reformed pastors/preachers I know, and comparatively few have beards.

Neither I nor Steve ("Martin Marprelate") have one.

I have just had a look through a directory of Reformed Baptist Churches in the UK, and of the 30 preachers I know who are listed, not one has a beard.

Of course I do know some Reformed people who have a beard (only men, though! ) but I don't know anyone who grew a beard because he believes the bible teaches it.
