There are really two types of Calvinists: infralpsarians and supralapsarians. Here are the distinctives of both : Notes on Supralapsarianism & Infralapsarianism

Excluding Amyraldism (4 point Calvinist) which really is a non-Calvinist, which Calvinist position do you subscribe to?

I'll start. I hold to the supralapsarian position.

    You're a Calvinist, matt?

P.S. But since you were polite enough to offer cake, I'll take some German chocolate please. A small piece. Thank you.

No, Matt, but some theological education helps...

    Infralapsarian for me.

Also, if people understood the categories being discussed much of the stereotyping about Calvinism would vanish. It is a very narrowly focused doctrine of soteriology, not a complete religious system, ala Roman Catholicism, as is often supposed around here.

Infralapsarian. Admittedly though, I've just embraced the DOG over the past year, so my understanding isn't as deep as some of the others on BB.

This is an issue I have struggled with over the years. However, I hold to an infralapsarian view at present time.

While not all supralapsarian people are hyper calvinists, all hyper calvinists are supralapsarian.

Some days I'm supra, others I'm infra. Today I'm supra. I base that on God's immutability, that he does not change. If God elects at a point in time, that would represent a change. So election is from eternity past--whenever that was.

    1. Sin has affected every man and every part of man is affected. Man has the ability to do seemingly good things. We are made in the image of God. That image can be reflected even in an unsaved person. However, the unsaved person never does this to please God. He never seeks after God. Why? Because he has no desire to do so. Man sins because he chooses to sin. We choose based on our desires. We are born with a sinful nature. John 8:34, Ephesians 2:1

    2. God has elected certain individuals for salvation. This election is not based on anything man has done. It is not based on who would be good or bad, smart or dumb. You don't get saved because of your good sense. You don't get saved because you are smarter than the other guy. You get saved because of a work God does in your heart. No one gets saved without the drawing of God. He must be changed from the inside out.

    3. The death of Christ on the cross was sufficient to save every man. Every sin ever committed has had the payment that is required paid. If everyone was saved, nothing more would have had to be done by Jesus. It is sufficient for all. This doesn't mean that everyone will be saved. Only those whose faith is in Jesus Christ can be saved. Only these will have their sins effectually paid for. Sufficient for all, efficient for the elect.

While the death of Christ is abundantly sufficient to expiate the sins of the whole world, its saving efficacy is limited to the elect. - Cannons of Dordt

    4. Those that are chosen will come to him. They will do this willingly. Nobody is forced into salvation. In addition, nobody is forced into hell. Whosoever will may come. God will accept anybody that puts their faith in Jesus Christ. He will reject no one that truly puts their faith in Jesus.

    5. Those that are born again will be eternally saved. Jesus will lose no one. All that come will never be cast away. They will endure to the end, not because of their own power, but because Jesus Christ will keep us.

    jbh28?

you said "4. Those that are chosen will come to him. They will do this willingly. Nobody is forced into salvation. In addition, nobody is forced into hell. Whosoever will may come. God will accept anybody that puts their faith in Jesus Christ. He will reject no one that truly puts their faith in Jesus.

I agree with this statement 100%. But how can you say that "anybody" that puts their faith in Jesus will not be rejected, but yet right before that you are talking about only the "chosen"?

Which is it? Anybody? or just the 'chosen"?

Seriously, this is a good thread; I'm interested in what our calvinist brothers actually think. So far, it seems to be pretty even between infra and supra. I did notice that jbh identified his beliefs rather than actually answer the opening post.

Let's let them continue; and consider opening a similar thread for arminian and other non-cal brethren.

It'll go a long way towards being able to actually understand why some people post what they do; and better help all of us provide reasoned, reasonable responses to each other.

Waiting to see Aaron, preacher4truth, Luke, and EWF jump in here. . . .

They will jump in this thread the very second that God foreordained them to jump in, and not one second before, or after, He foreordained this to happen before the foundation of the world.:D :wavey: :love2:

I am just kidding with you Brothers. Please do not take exception to this, I really meant no harm. I love you guys, especially P4T, he's and Oakland Raiders fan. We need each other's support(P4T and I) after going through these lean years since 2002.

That wasn't the question or the intent of the OP.
