Is it possible to decide if one nation state is morally superior to another?

For example, would a country like Ireland which outlaws the murder of children in the womb be considered morally superior to nations which allow it and protect the rights of mothers to kill their children?

Not sure if you can make a blanket statement about one nation over another. I would certainly say that in this area, Ireland would be "morally superior" to the USA.

I don't know enough about other areas, but, in other areas, Ireland may be "morally inferior" to the US or other nations. For example, China with its respect for elders may be morally superior to other nation in that area, while obviously with its abortion record or persecution of beievers would be inferior.

    Interesting question!

There are too many factors to consider to make such a judgement on the strength of one issue. For instance your comment is not taking into account the murders that have taken place between Protestants and Catholics over the years and the terror tactics used by both.

Also are you speaking of the government or the people? There is a difference.

I guess I intended to question the countries laws and policies rather than crime rates. Those actions were never legal and criminals were punished. In my scenario those who kill their children do so with legal protection.

It is not a one issue question. My example was a 'for instance.'

There is no such thing as a "morally superior nation".

I tend to agree. That is why I raised the question.

    Great question C4K.

    My opinion:

There is a difference between a nation/country and it's government.

America is my country. It's government presently does not represent my set of morals.

Abortion and euthanasia (WA and OR) at the top of the list of allowed immoral practices.

I think is is possible to decide if a particular issue is of greater moral value then another in a particular state or nation against what another state or nation does, but I do not believe we can come to definitive decision as to which nation is the most moral over all. By the way this is on a human level as no nation is moral.

What do you base the morals on? Culturally morals vary from peoples to people. Our nation has a mixed bag of peoples groups with diversity of cultures, so do we judge the moral on our groups morallity or the other groups morallity.
For instance in the far east eating a dog is a delicacy to us that would be disgusting. Many nations eat horse meat again many in our nation find that cruel.
God gives us His standard in the Laws He gave to Moses and that is where we should start and finish. Only one person kept God's standard perfectly and He provides salvation for all.
