Politicians, and especially the Republicans just do not get it. They believed that with the 2010 elections they had received a mandate and it now is obvious they did not. They were not given a mandate to pursue extreme politics. There were given the task of helping the US get back on the right track and that means they may well have to compromise some of their stances and learn to cooperate instead of stonewall.

Here is my take. The American voter did not send the Tea Party candidates and the Republicans to Congress to run a no-compromise congress. The American voter sent them to D.C. to try to fix the economy and they have not done that. They have tried to destroy collective bargaining, unions, and to move the country backward 50 years on family planning. Yesterday voters sent the message that this approach is rejected. They want politicians to bargain together to find the solutions for fixing America, jobs first. This will mean there will have to be compromise. Government works best where people are willing go give and take. Government works very poorly, if at all, when folks in government refuse to compromise to move forward.

Ohio defeated the Tea Party and Republican sponsored "kill the unions and collective bargaining bill.

Mississippi rejected the anti-abortion bill introduced there:

Mississippi is a conservative state and this fact alone should send a loud and clear message to Congressmen.

Republican legislators, if they have a brain, should realize that you cannot become too extreme in American politics without the voters punishing them.

Democratic legislators, if they have a brain, should not make too much out of these victories.

Both should hear the message that we the American voter did not sent you to DC to argue and pursue a 'no way but my way'. We sent them there to do that which is right for America. And the first task is either helping the economy recover and create jobs, or get out of the way so the private sector can create jobs. The second task is to fix the economy, and that may have to cause some pain, even to the rich. The poor are in enough pain already.

CTB, I've got one thing to add- Obama and the Democrats need to grow a spine and stop capitulating to the Republicans at every turn. The truth is the Democrats are sold out to corporate interests almost as much as the Republicans.

Trying to tie this to the 2010 election and whether or not there is a mandate is odd. The Conservatives who won the election in 2010 won running on the issues they are now standing for. To negate that would be to fail to stand for what they ran on. They were elected by people who supported what they ran on. They will keep their word and positions.

It would be nice if there was room for compromise on the current issues. But Obama and the Senate Dems do not want compromise. There are currently no less than 15 bills sitting in the Senate from congress on job creation. Reid will not let them come to the floor for debate.

To try to pin the lack of compromise on Republicans is just not honest or out of ignorance at best. There seems to be a willingness to ignore some facts about Republicans. It also appears that because of the current economic situation the left is scared and reactionary and have lost all sense of dignity and honesty.

And the issue in this election was more about the misrepresentation of contraceptives that about the real issue. The left worked very hard to misrepresent this and they were very effective.

Nope, the public voted for Republicans and Tea Party Republicans to CUT SPENDING, hold the line on taxes, and overturn Obamacare. The result would be a fixed economy. It's obvious that Obama wants to do all three of the things that the 2010 candidates ran against. Why should they compromise? They are only doing what they were elected to do.

This was not a major piece of the Tea Party agenda, so if the public rejects it, it does not indicate dissatisfaction with how the Tea Party is handling taxes and spending issues.

Killing a baby is murder. It was the right thing to do. Every Christian should stand up for life, event he unborn. The economy, in my opinion, is less important than human life.

As for the unions, they did not destroy unionization. The fact is that in order to remain financially solvent, there needs to be a better addressing of systems like the pension system, which Unions have refused to budge.

I would be glad to discuss the ramifications of our current system. THe problem with our spending is not merely the spending, but the system itself.

Take Wisconsin. People bash the union busting there. In actuality, the Unions had a monopoly in the health care portion of benefits. The state could not renegotiate with any other health care providers, by contract. It so happens, the ability to negotiate with other health care providers caused the Union Insurance to reduce their rates in order to compete with other insurance agencies. This saved districts hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the state millions. The results allowed some districts to operate in the black and other districts to hire more teachers. It was a win-win.

I think you would have seen the same thing in Ohio. Collective bargaining would not be limited, but Unions would not be given unfair advantages like they were in Wisconsin's health care.

BTW, I am neither Republican or Democrat.

The republicans still advocate the same policies that got us into this mess. Democrats protect their special interests and advocate the same policies that got us into this mess. They both are corrupt. Both attack our freedoms, both attack the economy, both engage in cronyism. Obama promised change, he only changed who gets the checks, he didn't eliminate checks.

Funny how C.T.Boy isn't spoutin' off about how team zero's health care mandate went over in Ohio.

Then look at what happened in Virginia.

Ohio will get this right. They have a while to do it.

Disagree - Govt works best when its the least amount of govt needed.
As far a compromise - supposed one groups wants a speed limit of 20 mph thur an extremely populated area - the other group wants no speed limt. Would you fault the first group for not wanting to compromise?

First the term "anti-abortion" offends me. It was the personhood life bill.
One reason the bill failed was due to the mis-information put out by the pro-abortion groups.

LIBERAL legislators, if they have a brain, should realize that you cannot become too extreme....

I VOTE - GET OUT OF THE WAY (LOWER TAXES, REDUCE REGUALTIONS.
Allow private business to operate in a way that is effective for them
