As I look over all of the potential candidates for 2012 I find myself very discouraged. I look at them and I wonder 'Who of this bunch really, truly has the wisdom, knowledge, experience, and leadership capabilities to lead the US in its current crisis?'

None of the seven acknowledged contenders from the GOP seem to fit the bill. The current president has clearly proven that he cannot do the job.

Laying aside the prejudices, party labels, and media opinions is they anyone, among that list or others, who could be the leader that is needed at this time?

    I don't have an answer.

Is there anyone like that, or are we just going to elect another popularity contest winner?

I still think Cain is the best choice- I'd love to see a Cain/Gingrich ticket. But I am afraid that while the Republicans allow themselves to be led around by the nose, Obama will win a second term. He has already raised three times as much $ as Romney has.

Even he was a big spender though and that spending is part of the problem getting us where we are.

I agree with the OP. I am not happy about any potential candidate in either party. It appears that I will have to hold my nose and vote for who ever I end up voting for.

I want to like Mr Cain, but the comment yesterday that it is not his job to know foreign policy was a big blow - not his gaffe on Libya, bit that comment about foreign policy along with the Uzbekistan business concern me about his wisdom and general knowledge. Can the president really refer to other states as 'small, insignificant countries?'

The thing I like about him is he is willing to admit that he doesn't know everything- unlike the others and especially unlike President Obama. And another thing: he has a track record of success in business- the real world- unlike the majority of the other candidates.

Is he perfect- no. I wish he was about 10 years younger so he could fill two terms as President.

The most significant country to me is the USA. That is the one we should all, as Americans, be concerned for. Does that mean we neglect foreign relations- no. It means we need to get our own house in order or foreign relations will be the least of our problems.

My husband said this morning that Obama is going to run backwards into another term if someone with the intelligence and wisdom to lead this country doesn't stand up as a candidate. I tend to agree with him.

Cain was and is the best the choice out of the Republicans, but I don't believe he has the foriegn policy knowledge he needs, nor do I believe he is quick enough on his feet to make timely decisions that are needed when one is President. And yes, his gaffe over Libya is what leads me to wonder about that. Libya has been at the forefront of politics for several months. The rebels there just killed off Gadaffi. The mere word Libya should have brought to his mind what ideas he has for relations between us and them. Some things just have to sit at the front and this is one of them.

And if he pairs with eye of Newt, I'll vote for Obama again. (honestly, I see no real difference between the two parties except: one wants to spend our taxes on "social programs" and the other wants to spend our taxes on "business incentives". Both want more money no matter what they claim.)

I won't put my hopes in a man, either party, especially when it's a popularity contest. Lying is an accepted part of it along with the empty promises of a worldy system. Seems silly to me when I have Jesus as Lord.

While this may be true we have been given, by God I believe, the gift of being able to elect our leaders and have a voice in the governing of our country. To me this is a precious gift and should not be squandered upon the altar of Christian apathy.

Doesn't matter. Both major parties are owned by the international corporations. Nothing is going to change without a revolution.

I think this shows the sad and serious state we find ourselves in as a nation. For me it is just another reason why this nation has to fail sooner then later.

While citizens of heaven we still dwell in earthly kingdoms. We still pay taxes, obey laws, and submit to God ordained authorities. God has given US and other Christians the privilege to choose our leaders. We honour Him by exercising the privilege He gives.

God never gave me a democracy. That is a manmade government. God wants a Theocracy. Deny yourself to know Him is opposite of the Bill of Rights. If you think you will put a "Christian" in office to make a worldy system right, good luck with that.

Bill while I would never suggest it is acceptable I completely agree with you it would bring a change. The only point I would make is that the change a revolution would bring in this day and age in a nation as ours would only lend itself to destroy the fabric of what this nation was founded on. In my opinion it is impossible for man to resurrect from where we have fallen from as a nation by a revolution. Our problems are spiritual in nature and only can be solved spiritually. We are doomed without one and we are doomed with one in my opinion. The only difference would be the outcome of which will cause more chaos.

The Republican field should narrow considerably after Iowa -- or at least that's wishful thinking. The three most intelligent and experienced candidates are Romney, Gingrich and Huntsman (though he probably doesn't have a chance and is coming in around 2% in the polls). Yes, I too like Cain on a personal basis, but he is too inexperienced to be President and his answers on Libya and the "Stans" show that. Personally, I have a hard time understanding why the Republicans are having such a hard time gravitating toward Mitt, other than his religion. Perhaps a Mitt/Newt ticket would fit the bill.

Huh? From where did you glean any idea that I think that? Nobody is claiming that human government can Christianise society.

Even Paul 'used' his Roman citizenship to accomplish God's work.

    >God wants a Theocracy.

God tried several versions of "theocratic" governments in the OT and everyone failed. Every attempt at a NT theocratic government failed, Anabaptist governments worst of all. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anabaptist

The Reformers didn't do any better in Europe or North America. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Way_Covenant

Maybe that is why Jesus and subsequent NT writers never advocated political involvement. Jesus specifically instructed Christians to avoid the civil legal system.

"WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT" b.s is only a right wing method for avoiding the clear NT teachings.

Democracy. It will fail. It is not in the bible. It is Greek and Roman.

    Okay.

Now, back to the topic. Does anybody have anyone in mind?
