What does God require of us?

Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

God requires something from us; He requires that we serve Him. This does not take away from the free offer of the Gospel. The Gospel message is freely offered and freely received. We in no way earn forgiveness of sins. Romans 6:23 is clear on this:

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

While salvation is freely offered and freely received, those who do receive it are not free to to live for themselves. Christians are bond-slaves of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is their obligation to serve Him.

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Christians do not have the freedom to live for themselves. This is not to be confused with our failures in serving Christ fully. Because we still battle with indwelling sin will often fall short in our Christian duties. We are forgiven even for these failures; but the requirement is not changed. Christians were created for good works. Ephesians 2:10 could not be any clearer. A professed Christian who has no desire for good works needs to heed Paul's warning:

2 Corinthians 13:5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-- unless indeed you fail the test?

Let us heed the admonition from the author of Hebrews:

Hebrews 10:23-24 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

It is amazing how much God loves them who are humble.............
